I don't generally hate anime. A lot of it is boring or looks awful and I therefore didn't watch past 1 episode. FLCL, Gun Slinger Girl, .hack//, Blood + sequel, and probably a lot more I can't remember. Claymore is the only thing I remember watching all of the episodes and being very disappointed at the end.

I like: Death Note, Trigun, Rahxephon, Full Metal Alchemist, Early Non-Filler-Arch Bleach, Kurokami, Code Geass, Blood +, Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Fate/Say Night and its sequel, to name a few.

For movies I like: Howels Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and the Girl Who Lept Through Time.

The title of the thread is ''Latest Discovery''. Why is the OP about anime?

Anyway, I don't ''hate'' any of those shows. But I don't like them, at all (except One Piece, which I have't seen). Can't stand those art styles, the dialogue is childish, and the stories are often cliche. Pokemon used to be fun when I was a kid though (and I still like the games (the dialogue is so much better in those!)). I just rewatched the first Pokemon movie like a week ago, and man was that bad. xP

I do like other anime though, like Paprika, Ghost in the Shell, Metropolis, Samurai Champloo, etc. As long as it's good, I don't care where a movie/series is from or how it's made.

I used to watch Gundam, Pokemon, Digimon, and Zoids. I dislike the new ones though, Pokemon is doing the same damn thing both on the TV show and the games. The first anime I've watched is Sailor Moon, lol, that was back then when I was 4 or 5.

Also, I hate Naruto, I am really sorry to say.

I'm quite litterally a newbie when it comes anime and manga, but my new friends recommended some stuff and I've been quite hooked the last six moths or so (I did see some stuff before that, like... Dokoru-Chan, Halo Legacy, some Elfen Lied and what not).

What I've watched, currently watching etc be found here:
http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Arowanna
Angel Beats! is kinda emotional, despite the humor.

Current Favorites:
5 Centimeters per Second (I cried like a baby, deal with it! :'/ )
Bakemonogatari (Nisemonogatari is pretty awesome as well)

But I've enjoyed a lot of the stuff I've watched.

"Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni" is pretty nuts and macabre. Guy clawed his own throat open. Clawed.
One of the first animes I saw since I got "hooked", or what ever you want to call it. That and Elfen Lied and I freaking love 'em :)

The Girl Who Lept Through Time is beautiful..!
FLCL! is pretty damn funny and somehow cute in my opinion.
Black Lagoon was more than enjoyable, I love the dark undertones thru out the anime and the constant battle in the "grey zone" of morals.

The only anime I've really watched was Evangelion.
I loved it! O.O
The eight last episodes blew my mind away!

I do like other anime though, like Paprika, Ghost in the Shell, Metropolis, Samurai Champloo, etc. As long as it's good, I don't care where a movie/series is from or how it's made.
Paprika is somewhat a "graphical wonder" in my opinion, so drugged-out!
Ghost in the Shell was enjoyable, the concept is pretty amazing and the art is... Epic.

Zatch bell should only be read (manga form)
The Boondocks in not an anime, it's inspired by anime.
Although it is awesome, can't wait for season 4.

Let's see.

If I'm gonna go for what was my favorite when I was younger, definitely the first Digimon series. The amount of awesomeness in there kept me watching it like nothing else. Plus, it wasn't the crappy American dub, but the original Japanese one, subs and all. Still love it to this very day.

Right now, I'm really into Casshern Sins. Fantastic story, pretty original too. Not your everyday sci-fi robot-vs-robot anime. The fight scenes are pretty much the most spectacular ones I've ever seen in an anime.

But if I'm going for an all-time favorite, Higurashi owns everything else. This is pretty much the only, and I kid you not, anime that made me shiver in fear. Hands down, the most disturbing series I've ever seen (and this is coming from a guy who watched THIS). The atmosphere is 140% perfect, the characters are spot on, everything is just fantastic.

Now I'm not allowed to post hentai, so I'll just get the hell outta here.

To be honest, I did not find Higurashi scary, but more emotional and psychological (not in the sense of Neon Genesis Evangelion or Serial Experiments Lain, but a hint of it; same goes for Elfen Lied).

The gore isn't what appeals to me either, not in Higurashi or Elfen Lied. It does build up that "creepy feeling" sometimes, but during most of the death scenes I feel more… Sad? Mentally distressed? I really don’t know how to explain how I feel, but I don’t feel “scared” or “creeped out of my mind”. But it’s agonizing to see some of the characters we’ve been built up an opinion about being killed in horrible ways. The best example is when Shion is the antagonist, I felt emotionally disturbed during that whole arc. Everything about it is dark, all the background stories and etc… Meeh… I guess I’m just an emotional cry-baby! :(

Anyway, Higurashi and Elfen Lied are lovely!

Now that you mention it... HOW IN THE F*CKING WORLD DID I FORGET EVANGELION.
Though, you did just perfectly describe what I specifically like in anime - getting emotionally bonded with the characters, and Evangelion does it perfectly (tbh, Digimon also NAILED it, that's what sets it so apart from Pokemon). I prefer the Rebuild series, there's no fillers, the graphics are improved, and God damn it, Mari is the hottest chick ever drawn in an anime.
...what, I like glasses. Glasses are cool. STOP JUDGING ME.

......ANYWAYS, back to the point. That's precisely what Higurashi does right, builds up all of the characters to the point where you will actually feel bad for them when they get brutally mutilated, instead of simply forcing a crapton of sadistic violence for no reason (a la Serbian Film).

Since the thread says "Anime", I assume that we can include a larger spectrum besides series?

I miss X (series, movie) and Hellsing (series, OVA) in this thread. Streamed during late-night, incredibly entertaining to watch.

Used to watch Sailormoon (lesbianism for children and no one cared :ogre_hurrhurr: ), Digimon (1st season), Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh (1st season?), Ranma 1/2, One Piece, Heidi and Maya the Bee (afaik, the latter two are considered anime) when I was a child. That's when many of those series that are ongoing were still worth watching...

Besides reading the Naruto manga (and others), I also enjoy watching the anime (without fillers and in japanese with subs), just to see how they animate stuff and change plot texts. I really dislike its dubs. >_>

Also watched the Avatar - Last Airbender series. Highly entertaining, great characters, but worst decision ever to make a movie for this one...

Another series I can recommend: Arjuna. Loved the concept, style etc.

Movie-wise:
I can't actually remember everything I've watched so far (anime-wise), but I've definitely seen Mononoke-hime and Spirited Away.

Samurai Champloo - Violence + hiphop japan + humour
Gurren Lagann - another one of those rare post-apocalyptic type of animes. funny, and at times may be a tearjerker.
Fairy Tail - you cannot deny how funny this anime is.

How could I forget those! Loved both of them.

I like Gundam Seed Destiny too, though I kinda hated how in the later parts, they all seem to have the same armaments... Though I really love Kira's X-20A Strike Freedom... ^.^

I loved the manga of fairy tail but I kinda don't like the anime just because of Natsu's voice... It seems too deep for him...

Anyone here who watched Bubblegum Crisis?

So… I finished watching School Days a few days ago and what to say... What began as a "half-assed triangle drama" ended up being one of the most emotional trips I've ever taken...

I felt like I was crawling through a field of barbed wires, my fleshing being torn by its spines as I was psychologically raped with a chainsaw... That sounds rather unpleasant and I won’t deny the fact that it was, but this anime was still amazing. It brings up something I hate, humans egocentric needs and it does it in a very scornful way, almost on an insane level. Yes, I felt misanthropic as hell when I watched it, but that’s the purpose of the anime (or that’s what I got out of it) and it made me think, think more than I should. That might also be the weirdest part of this anime; I love it because I hate it, I hate it because it’s so real, so painful; a kick in the face that screams “Humanity sucks!”

Meeh, this post was just confusing, to sum it up:
- If you like being “depressed” and have a slight hatred towards humanity, then you should watch this; but prepare for a hell of ride through the garden of depression…

And I think I’ll watch Kimi ga Nozomu Eien soon, it’s supposed to be somewhat like School Days, but slightly more “mature”. But I really should take a break from depressive stuff at the moment, because School Days really screwed up my mind.

I've been waiting for Sasuke in Naruto to die for years now, so I decided to quit watching it cuz it wasn't going anywhere. Just the same old trash episodes that fill up 2/3 of the list. -.-

Anyway here is my recommended list:
Full Metal Alchemist (classic version+the movie)
Death Note
One Piece

Worth to watch:
Gungrave
Dragonballs
Berserk

I watched a bit of Bleach and Fairy Tail but I never really got stuck in those two, but I am definetely going to finish off Fairy Tail when I get time.

I believe that Brotherhood was much more well polished and satisfying (and accurate) then the classic one was. Brotherhood was one of the best animes I watched.

I love Bleach as long as its focusing on the Aizen based story archs. Im really glad that they are ending the Series, and that they are using Aizen to do it.

Naruto is good at times, bad at times, and then suffocates you with Fillers. I almost cried when watching Minato and the Mother sacrifice themselves.

As for movies, basically anything Miyazaki touches is gold. Although there are a few of his that I am not particularly fond of.

are you talking about the dubs? or the jap version.

I think the english dub made him better. HAVE YOU LISTENED TO WHAT HE SOUNDS LIKE AT THE JAP VERSION.

I also like the manga too though. Even though it's spoilerific.

MYSTOGAN IS FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION, HE IS NOT JELLAL, HE IS NOT JELLAL'S BROTHER. AND HE'S THE MOST POWERFUL WIZARD OF FAIRY TAILLLLLLLLLLLL
