i was almost certain i stated this before, but apparently i haven't so i'll do it now.
the last time i was in contact with Shade was approximately 3 months ago (via steam). Sajira had effectively set up a steam group for FOTN by then, and nothing considerable has passed my nose since then.
Shade had continued developing the map, fulfilling many of the requested/planned features we had been negotiating prior to his hiatus. however, he stated it very clear to me that it was a "for friends" kind of thing, and wasn't exactly a public release. he did not make clear to me whether or not he had actually uploaded it online.
Epic War has one major fall-off when it comes to uploads and that is credibility. according to the upload dates, all the "v 1.25"s were uploaded in 2012 or prior, which says quite a bit about the nature of the map in itself. whether it is shade himself or not is debatable but rest assured it is almost certainly not official. the forums were still alive at that time, and only went offline early this year.
so please, if you intend on finding a proper updated version, your best chances are through messaging previous forum moderators (which most have moved on or are inactive now, i am one but i'm probably not much help myself), or pursue the FOTN group via Sajira or one of their group moderators. just don't bug the living hell out of people, they probably won't appreciate it.
the Steam FOTN group, from what i understand, is working as both a new platform for the forum and also as a liason for getting games together. your best bets are there. i will probably inquire more details about version numbers to get back to you guys (when shade hops on again), but otherwise, just go with the group. This is like a massive plug for the group, but hey, why the hell not haha.
EDIT: about protection of the map, i think it's self explanatory after looking at epic wars. once things get derailed its very hard to locate and play an official version, when expected content might be missing, or an editor added some godly BS. i personally think it's just not the right way to go about it.
EDIT 2: Scouring the Group page, i found Sajira mentioning the following:
"Sajira (Sajira) Officer 5 Apr @ 7:40am
Hey CRO, with the 5 people i know who actually have the new map, we are asked not to host it, and even if we did, as you can see on the FOTN facebook page, it will only stay open for alittle over a minute. all we can do is grow the community and encourage Shade for the update. But he is busy like the rest of us and it will take alittle time for it to go public."
hope that clears things up.
