engineering upgrade

is there any fix for using engineering upgrade to add spells with triggers? see in attached map i add holy bolt with trigger it works but the icon and spell animation show as the dummy ability not the new spell. noticed the old custom hero maps have icons missing because of this too.

That problem happens because you are trying to switch a unit ability from channel to any other that's not a channel-based spell, making the latter hidden. Unfortunately, Engineering Upgrade (ANeg) inherits a lot of fiels from the primary ability such as targets allowed, spell anim, X/Y button pos, etc...

I don't think there's a fix for that. Is there any specific reason for doing it with Engineering Upgrade? You'd be better off adding/removing abilities via triggers only, IMO.

its the only way you can level the ability with the hero ability menu that i know of

found the fix for this if anyone cares. you tick use custom ability skins in scenario > map options.

Since 1.32 there is a bug in Engineering upgrade;
-Ability icon and ability animations no longer change to the new ability
-Research icon and ability effect DO change to the new ability
This basically makes hero builder maps that use it look really weird.

I don't how 'custom ability skins' fixes this, can you explain? It appears to have no effect.
I use a workaround in my map. I created a set of dummy skills and actual skills. The actual skills get added/increased via a trigger, as soon as the dummy skill is learned. I still make use of EU, because there is no other way to change an ability's research icon.

Natass9 thanks. It took me a while to find why I couldn't reproduce your result.

Turns out that you have to delete all entries in the field 'Ability - Hero Skin' to make it work. Otherwise, it will use the animation and icon of these abilities, instead of the ability you switch in via EU.

Thanks for the find, this is really useful for hero builder maps, and AFAIK this solution is not well known.
