Atticus, sounds like the system that we were gonna use for TLS that alters the way some encounters work and ultimately determines the ending you get.

Well, random events add replayability to a map.
Players would want to explore these possibilities.

With what has been developed already and what will be developed in this game, there will be no problem with replay-ability, I think I've stated this before. In addition with what will be in the game upon release, it being a campaign will allow for 'expansions' to the players game.

I have completely revamped the Eldroc Thread and added new information about the game. If you have questions, comments, suggestions; please post them here. In addition, if you are using the current banner, I am going to kill the link later today, and I hope you will replace it with the new banner that will be posted right after I kill the link for the old one. Thank You!

@Drunken Why you leaving this great project? I hope you find a new terrainer Atticus. Oh and I love your new thread :D

And I love your spell system when the spell is used often it will level up, that was just unique.

Have a suggestion, addition to the spell system, makes a player learn a spell if he used the spell often.

Example:

If he used Blink 50 times and use stormbolt 30 times he will learn thunderclap. This kind of system is often use on big rpg games(games not map) like tales of destiny, that I see on this project.

This is surely something to watch out for.

I have an question, how flexible is the gear system like?
As in, say, I have a Warrior, and I'd like him to ocassionally fire an arrow from a bow... Does that sort of thing fly around here or not?

Compared to a lot of RPG's on Hive, Eldroc's items do not alter the appearance of the character itself. Spells are the primary customization of characters in Eldroc; and are easily altered based on your character specialization.

To answer your question more specifically; no, if you were playing Dozer a bow would not be an item that would alter your attack type; however, Dozer has a variety of range spells; as well as one that offers a change in attack type from melee to range.

EDIT: FYI the new banner is up, if you had the old one, the link to the picture has been removed; so if you don't want a cruddy looking sig, get the new one off the first post!

By way of explanation, what's dynamic about the mail system?

The system isn't used on a regular basis with quests, it's primary purpose is to notify a player in two different situations. Right now, it:

  • Allows the player to CONTACT certain NPC's he/she's already met, using a list of specific predetermined strings.

    • For example; with the size of Eldroc, some players may run out of quests he/she can find. Contacting certain NPC's via the mailbox will allow the player to be notified of quests in the NPC's area.

  • Also, the mailbox allows the player to be CONTACTED by certain NPC's notifying them of up-n-coming events or quests. This keeps the player always in motion and helps dissolve the 'where do I go now?' feeling.

Now on to my use of the word dynamic. While I believe the word dynamic may be over dramatic to explain a mailbox system, the word explains the PURPOSE of the system relatively well, and that is to keep the players hero in motion at all times.

That sounds fun. My next question- Do you have to check your mailbox or do you automatically get notified of mail?
And is there a way to use some kind of packmule/courier to go pick your mail while you are otherwise occupied?

No you don't have to check your mailbox, you are notified no matter where you are. The Creep Active/Inactive button near the mini map has been altered, in a way that it has no function what so ever, the area is empty when you don't have mail and has a letter when you do have mail. Here is a picture of it:

!Note: My UI is not finished yet. Don't judge! :p

And, for now now, the mailbox system does not follow you around or anything like that. But an item to create a 'Mobile Mailbox' may come to be if the system is effective.

This zone/map is the only barren map. Im showcasing it in the thread because it is the beta map for testing all the systems/spells that will run throughout every map in Eldroc. However, most the dungeons in this zone, do not have a barren-like feel. Because of the sheer size of this game, it's important that I get the beta map done first so the systems can be tested, once everything on this map works, it will be very easy to implement them into the other maps.

I do want to note on this post however, that while the basic layout of the map is quickly being developed, the attention to detail still needs to be assessed, if anyone would like to help terrain Eldroc. Please send me a PM

Why didn't you scale up the trees? If you wont, you might as well use standard Warcraft 3 trees.
Also the screenshots fell kinda, well empty. You could add some environment doodads or place some more tile variation.
Tiles also could be raised/lowered more.
Try making it like the one I sent you for Map 2 :D

Good luck again bro.

That map had like zero doodads on it. lol

Don't let the join date fool you, I joined when I found out about map development and modding, didn't mean I did it. I only started really terraining last year, and it's been really sporatic unfortunatly. This however is my first project I've actually ever attempted; aside from minor terraining for other projects.

Btw, thank you for the kind words.

Eldroc Game Update 4.22.2012:

  • Added 5 new screenshots on OP, more will come during this week
  • Added several low level armor and weapons that can be purchased by vendor
  • Added several new locations, previews this week
  • Added several new quests (4-8 Level Range)
  • Added Preview of 3 Dozer abilities, 3 of Lia's will be revealed this week.

Dozer Ability Preview:

attachment.php

Second Wind
Once Dozers HP reaches 0%, he will be granted the 'Second Wind' buff. In this state he will be unable to move and is given four new abilities specific to 'Second Wind', as well as a 10 second timer. If Dozer kills any enemy within the 10 second timer, he will immediately get back up and 30% of his max HP will be returned; if he fails to kill an enemy during this time, he will die. This ability shares cool down with other resurrection abilities and has a and diminishing return.
Ability_warrior_titansgrip.png

Solid Punch
Dozers fists become hard as rock, increasing his damage and giving him a chance to knock the target back on his next attack.
Spell_Nature_Reincarnation.png

Deafening Shout
Dozer lets out a mighty shout, causing all enemies around him to take damage and become stunned for 1.5 seconds.

Note: Abilities previews are vague, details wont be given till Beta release.

You should give Dozer an ability to reduce incoming attacks since he is a Tank, because if you dont, he will be a little squishy (a little since he is STR based).
Also, give him more mass damage spells. Most people using Tanks tend to attack swarms of enemies since they can handle it with their high hp.

Deafening Shout have a chance to induce Fear, giving him healing time.
Solid Punch could be the next few attacks though. This makes him a greater threat to hostiles.
As for Second Wind, killing an enemy to gain HP seems too overpowered. It could be after killing, say 10 enemies.

Remember Atticus, im still an Idealist here :D
Skype me if you want more abilities.

These are just 3 spell previews. And maybe I didn't explain 'Second Wind' well enough. It only happens when he dies, and there is a diminishing return, so people can't have it happen over and over again.

They're also just suggestions for new abilities.
About the Second Wind, i'm talking about this line:

I dont really get it but I think its like: When he kills an enemy after Second Wind, he gets 30% of his HP.

That is correct. But Second Wind only happens when Dozer dies. It can't be cast by the player, it is passive.

Yes but killing an enemy and getting 30% of the max hp bonus is overpowered.
Im saying that he could gain a lower bonus such as 1% - 5% hp or 30% after he kills like 7 - 15 enemies.

Based your comment. I'm not explaining it well enough, let me re-edit the original post with the spell in it to make more sense.

EDIT: Reworded it. Hopefully it better explains it. It works; and is not overpowered I can promise that. I do however believe the window at which to kill an enemy is too long, and have reduced to 10 seconds, this is the portion of the spell that will need testing and playing around with.

Does Dozer use his bare hands as weapons? Because, otherwise, Iron Thews, Granite muscle or some such might be a better name for Solid Punch.

I mean, as hard as his fists get, it's still the weapon and the arm-and-shoulder behind it that decides on the damage.

And just so I am clear, Second Wind reduces the amount returned each time, yes?
Like 30% the first time, 29% the second time and so on?
