Decent game with oh-my-god-its-pretty-twisted-around community.

Many of them are dicks. But many are also OK guys. It is in pub games that you would find dicks that shouts "OMFG N00B GIT OUT YOU COCKSUCKER".

Its a decent map for me, and since my countrymen are crazy about it, its what I end up playing quite frequently.

Things that I hate about it though are...
- The level cap is too high, and the fact that creeps and towers are effectively useless late game.
- Never take after Icefrog's style of aesthetic/name use. Honestly his hero classes are some of worst named ever. (Most are just whatever the unit model is called in melee.)

triggers, character concepts, and gameplay, dota is a fun game overall even to us girl gamers but.. what i really hate about it is that in the Philippines.. it overshadowed the Warcraft meelee and campaign games.. i mean, people dont even know that dota is just a custom map.. they dont even recognize the Warcraft engine (they call it dota now, not Warcraft) in our country, you open TFT because you wanna play dota. most dota players dont even know who Arthas is.. i just wanna see somebody open a meelee game in Local Area Network again...

1: too many noskill "just go" characters and they're almost unstopable
2: i know but if your team is full of dumb you can't do anything

The game is actually quite balanced, there is just a VERY different play style to each character, and you must fulfill YOUR ROLE, not whatever you want.

Ok, so pick WoW groups (for example), and you choose 5 tanks for a group. You then have one of them try to heal, and 3 try to DPS. You will fail. Hard.

This is the same with DotA, each hero has a certain role, and you must fill that role to be effective.

If you are support, you are not going to get kills. That is not imbalance.

Welcome to Pub Gaming brah.

and it takes a lot of time to actually be good in DotA... so unless you are already on at least the good skill level, don't go whining about DotA being imbalanced...

when I started years ago, I am always afraid of fighting superheroes like Barathrum, mortred etc, because I thought they could kill anyone, but now? not, and I realized that it was just noob fright...

noobs always go and say, the game is unbalanced because they always get pawned by other heroes everytime on a game since they can't think of a battle strategy just yet...

nah, heroes could be imbalanced on 1on1 but that's why there are items you know. And in DotA or any other AoS/RTS, a good strategy beats down power...

Mr. Apheraz... I hate that. And I hate DotA as well :D
But, the fact is that DotA persists and stands for 'the best' map. Like someone says, people are not playing Warcraft anymore, they play DotA.
Oh, I can't wait DotA 2 to get out. Hopefully, these Dotaniacs will be dragged away from wc3.

I HATE DOTA. Mainly because almost all of my friends think is the best map in the world and critizes other maps that its not better than DOTA. They havent seen the best maps out there. In my opinion Dota relies to much on teamwork. And people get too much sucked in on it that they are totally ADDICTS to it. Like when some of my friends or classmates do a play because our teachers said so, about DOTA. For me, it is nice but the map seems too proud. It makes people not play Wc3.

SC2 hurt wc3 a little but it still has a stronger fan base than everyone thinks, that hasnt gone away. I see it both in Custom game and Ladder. Many custom games are quite strong still if anything is falling down a few notches its DotA for the fact theres too many bots for it still and not enough to fill them all, so they fill slow which = a lot of leavers and the bot never starts the game.

As for the pros and cons, it seems like a pretty good game over all but maybe focuses on heros/items too much

cons the game seems too simple, it doesnt even have half the microing ladder play has if you think about it.. you micro 1 hero, no units no creeps..nothing. would be cool to make a dota game were you have control over the army helping you push towards the enemy.

In my school I have a bunch of Korean kids that constantly play DoTA EVEN MORE THAN SC2! You heard me, Koreans playing something more than SC2!!! DoTa is rather addictive, another bad quality, and as it requires teamplay(which means you need to play with a host of people), it just drags in more and more players.
