Sad.

And yeah, ask anyone what an AOS is and they most likely wont know, but ask them what DotA is and there's no problem answering there.

rather funny to talk about AoS without ever playing it...

ask anyone what Wolfenstein 3D is and they most likely wont know, but ask them what Counter-Strike is and there's no problem answering there.

(for more extreme example replace Wolfenstein 3D with Half-Life)

I played the original Aeon of Strife on Starcraft quite alot back in the day.
So if the name AoS gets replaced with Dota so what?

Dota has pretty much earned it, with its overwhelming popularity.
The AoS maps are dead and never played anymore on the bnet.
When sc2 comes out im sure a new 'name' will appear and that will take over eventually.

Its mainly just the anti-dota haters who insist on it being called AoS.
Most ppl dont even know where the name originates from.

Your mockery fails because it was exaggerated in a way that can be deemed too much even by hyperbolic standards.

The "did you ever play AoS" argument fails as well. Many things can be called a popsicle, but you could have never eaten an ice pop of that brand before.

Now, about AoS vs DotA, both seem rather kosher to me. DotA is at a level of fame in the genre of which it can easily be used as a generic term.
Ex: Tissue vs Kleenex, or Bandage vs Band-aid.

The fact that the term AoS itself is a generic term as well simply cements this.
