Note: The team that developed this map (including me) have all moved over to Sc2 modding.
We are developing another map by the name of FoG (Fields of Glory) now, but most of the project is on hold until the release of HotS.

We will not go back and update this map.

Some of the best people in The Hive gathered and made this map and... I don't know what to say... I've never seen a better terrain ever. It definetly doesn't look like Warcraft 3, no and it doesn't look like Diablo 3, it's better than Diablo 3 :D... just awesome. GJ CloudWolf!

Ooo and Dr Super Good (or super critic)... that's Warcraft not Diablo 3, you don't get the Diablo 3 Engine to make amazing terraining. AND you're strongly mistakin' lad, because that map is the best map I've ever seen (I mean for terraining) and it definetly looks like Diablo 3. LOOK HOW MANY CUSTOM MODELS! Even the tables with books are awesome (I bet CRAZYRUSSIAN textured them)... it's just so awesome, YOU must kneel before such people making such awesome maps, not judge them.

... StarCraft II... I'm starting to hate this game... why didn't they make a Warcraft 4 so CloudWolf and his friends could go there... Bah... Atleast these people left all these models, maps and textures... Thank you and goodbye, I guess you'll be staying in StarCraft II forever... Noooo! :D

You wanted diablo III to be more like this game or this game be more like Diablo III?
You really need to ask that? Have you even played the real Diablo III? This map got boring after a few test plays while Diablo III beta got me hooked even though it was just a small part of Act 1.

AND you're strongly mistakin' lad, because that map is the best map I've ever seen (I mean for terraining) and it definetly looks like Diablo 3.
It is nothing like Diablo III as this was based on the Alpha. The release version of Diablo III is very different as a lot has changed.

If you want Diablo III you have to play the real Diablo III. This map is a good WarCraft III map but it is not Diablo III.

Off course, we know this, we are talking about maps in the hive. This map open a new map making era!!! We are no stupid blinded fans who can't see difference between D3 and a Warcraft3 map so please, don't be ridiculous to compare real D3 with a Warcraft3 map...

This map can and should be compared with Diablo III, as our goal were to recreate the game from the information and footage available at the time.
If you have played Diablo III you will notice that this map is nothing like the actual game in terms of gameplay. We did however succeed in creating a map that many people could play and enjoy.
We also learned a lot from this project, and I would like to thank everyone who supported us back then, and the people who still support us today even though the project has been canceled.

I do however think that people should let go of the project. It won't come back.
If you haven't tried Diablo III you should do so, and hopefully you'll end up buying it.

Diablo maps are incredibly repetitive.. gets so boring after a while. Walk along, fight huge mobs.. keep going, fight huge mobs... it never changes; no interesting quests.

And thats what makes an RPG good = Great quests.
It does have nice graphics yes, but its just too repetitive.

For the time when was created this map, he have done max of knowlage for D3. Map is realy cool and Doc u dont must to admit that. I do not undestand why u talk just about bad things in map.

I don't like only one thing: to me it looks like to Cloudwolf don't care about spells a lot. To he adds more triggered spells demon hunter some voice acting.

This map is one of the best what will world ever see. It' is totaly DC and from some reason it has only 4/5 (few days ago was 3/4). When I see what bad maps get 4/5 this is like to someone hate him

the mod stated the reasons for the rating...

Personally, I like Boody's version more than this though it might be simpler especially inventory-wise, it has much more gameplay and such... but of course, that is mainly because this map was made from the alpha of D3...

There's really no point in pointing out good things about this map anymore... Why? Because those have already been said repeatedly on the 200+ pages of this thread... if you say something good about this map, then its probably been said by others already...

Also, pointing out the bad things are actually more helpful to the developers because they will know what areas to improve... And contrary to the nonsense of repeating good comments, repeating comments to point out the flaws or bad things have a point... If people keep pointing out the same flaw, then it means you really need to change it... while if people keep pointing out the same good thing, what there's for you to do? Bask in joy?

then again, good and bad is based on our personal biases...

and it doesn't matter if its a 3/5 or a 4/5, as long as it's DC then it means it is far far above the other maps... you cannot equate a 4/5 just approved map with a 4/5 DC map...

When I was a resource moderator, directors cut was 6/5. You cannot have a 4/5 directors cut.

Map is realy cool and Doc u dont must to admit that.
For 3 odd years ago? yes... For now? It does not compare to Diablo III much.

I do not undestand why u talk just about bad things in map.
It was very buggy for starters and resembles nothing of the real Diablo III.

I really do not understand why people try to protect this map by saying that it is better than it really is.

It is true that this map has a lot of flaws, we were actually working on recreating all the spells in the map because the current ones were so... dull, and didn't have the diablo 3 feel to them at all. It was during this patch that we cancelled the project and moved over to StarCraft II. The goal of 1.20 was to work on the gameplay rather than the visuals, sadly it never came to that.

So I, as a developer of the map, would say that the rating this map got actually is quite generous.
The only thing that makes this map stand out is its visuals, and perhaps the Inventory System, but the gameplay itself is rather dull.
Still, this map is a piece of art in my mind, and that's what I'll remember it as.

I've tried out the map, it seems pretty good, but I have some notes:

  • Spells are a little bit meh compared to the rest of the map. I would have preferred to see just 3 spells per hero with some more attention paid to them.
  • It's a bit too hard to win without cheating. I would have liked to have a chance to see all the game (I died twice at one skeleton king boss ;( )
  • Stairwells that can't be walked up/down are a huge annoyance and kind of bad practice from a UX perspective

But, none of this matters. The terrain quality in this map alone deserves a directors cut. *****

This is a multiplayer map. I understand why you found it hard if you played it alone.
And we were going to redesign all the heroes in 1.20 (we planned to make that into the release version at one point) with spells much more similar to the ones seen in d3, but we never finished it. There are other diablo 3 maps out there based on this one which are much better.

In that case, you should consider reducing the difficulty when fewer players are playing. No one wants to download a massive map on battle.net.

Alternatively you could just introduce some feature for reviving more than 3 times.

This was designed as a co-op experience. (There are far better maps out there if you want to play something alone)
We were however planing to make the next update a big one, with new spells to give the map a "hack n' slash" feel to it. If we had actually done that, it may have been more fit for single player.
We quit working on this map about 1 and a half year ago though. There won't be any more patches.

There are however other map makers out there who have adopted the map (as it is "open source" to everyone as long as the required credits stay) and improved it a lot.

I never had the issue of people leaving because of map size either. People may have become impatient in the last year though.

I should also mention that as map developers, we really didn't have much experience at all when we made this map. And I myself think that this map is bad.
