Just tried this "feature" on a couple of WC3 maps.

Terrain conversion: 2/10
Got the layout right, but thats about it. Heights are all wrong. Pathing is all wrong. Didn't convert different brushes of terrain.

Item placement: 1/10
Added Vespene Gas where a Gold Mine used to be. Added a start location in the right spots. Didn't add trees, or creeps...

No conversion of unit data.

No conversion of triggers.

Wait, whats the point of that feature again?

SC2 uses a totally different pathing method as WC3. I think it's clear you have to do the pathing again after converting.

SC2 doesn't have creeps. And replacing trees with minerals would be weird. What did you expect?

No conversion of unit data.
You did notice that unit data in SC2 is TOTALLY different than in Wc3, don't you?

No conversion of triggers.
Well ... it uses a different scripting language after all. But I agree that this couldn't have been that hard to make. At least GUI-to-Gui transfer.

To convert popular skirmish maps to SC2 very quickly. I doubt that this feature was intended for scenario type maps.

The thing is, it doesnt even convert terrain properly. Make Turtle Rock and there, where is water, you get no water, there, where cliffs are supposed to be are no cliffs at all just slight hills. The least, if it wont add trees, dont turn trees into height... So the terrain conversion is shitty. Oh yes sometimes the cliffs are converted, in other cases not. Not much use in this feature.

I tried to make The Hunters using this. It failed. Though it did fairly with the terrain textures, so I used it as a template and added cliffs and it didn't look half bad. Maybe if it used cliffs instead of hills for converting SC1 maps, it wouldn't be so bad.

Maybe replace them with tree doodads?

Hey, don't bitch.
At least you got the terrain? Or at least a small bit of it?
Blizzard could have just said "f this" and not done any of that stuff.
Considering SC1, WC3, and SC2 all run with different engines, I'd like to see you program a feature to migrate the completely different programming languages to mingle and work efficiently.

With the War3 Zephir editor you can convert War2 and Sc1 maps into War3, so if someone quite skilled can create a similar tool for Starcraft 2 would be awesome, don't you think? :)
