Concept: SEX. or is it?!

SEX. or is it?!

I figure out that its againts the rules of sociaty to add sex motivators to your map.
I also experienced some of my maps "unacceptable" since I went overboard.
But listen with open mind before you judge.
It's all I ask you - an open mind.

Link: a guide for dota writen by me, everybody hated the guide but loved the picture I added.

http://www.playdota.com/forums/showthread.php?t=495746&highlight=omglioromg

I wanted to point out that many games add some funny sexy moments to their playstyle: resident evil 4 allways show the main girl underwere which is making everything more funny and enjoyable, the player get less stress and the gameplay become more fun.
In addition it's possible to say that the player feels sexy when girl tells him "hi hendsome, wanna ride?"
Warcraft 3 added a few womans with funny words , sorceress who talk with sexy voice, a queen of pain who look and talk like sado queen, and harpy who is totaly naked.
link: the mantioned harpy
http://classic.battle.net/war3/neutral/harpies.shtml#harpywindwitch

Ok so now that I slightly talked about how sexy events, sounds and models can indeed improve the player feeling, I want to talk about being overboard.
I made maps with only girls in it and some sexy descriptions like "getting close to an ally unit, the closetness heals the target" - which was redeamed as "totaly unapropiate" and I was told that I validated the rules of "bnet players are usually underage and it's wrong and enough reason to ban that map."
I think there is little truth to it but the person who banned the map was an asshole.
Of course, if harpy queen had skill to make sex midair with another air units, that was totaly being overboard, but the sexy descriptions do no harm. just ignore people like that.
Another thing I wanted to talk about is sexy screen shots.
The gamestart could be very encouraging to go inside with energy with simply a few girls was half naked, best with their bra unzipped but not seen fully. sure, being overboared is to show up the entire thing, which is actually not that bad but might make ur map become to have "pervert" treatment to it and people will refuse to watch it's real content.
So yea, sexy voice, a naked fling woman and half naked girls are imba fun for the game, but it's also important to not show too much, especialy on the game start.

I want to thank to all those who read and I want to hear your opinion about the concept. There is much more to discust about since I just nearly talked flashly and gave few examples of sexuall use inside games.
( Sex can be found much in TV broadcasts too, since sex is selling :D )
Furthermore I would like to hear your ideals about how to add sexyness to maps other than just models/text/screenshots since I need more ideals.

Your Thoughts?

Seriously? How frustrated do you have to be to do this? The problem with the modern society is that, instead of teaching teenagers to control their hormones, it makes those same hormones go batshit insane. That makes teenagers more aggressive, more promiscuitive and more bad-decision-making-able. Putting sex into a game is just that.

Well thanks for posting, someone finnaly replays. That means a lot.
I think that sex is indeed something that most persons are feeling uncomftrable to talk about since its emberessing - let alone playing with random sex motives inside the game.
But this is the 2012 -> open your television to understand what it means:
Sex is posted everywhere, sex it selling, sex is motive in many games and therefor making your game "totaly without sex" might make it also "boring". Since sex is totaly welcome in our days sociaty it's only netural to atlist take a moment to think about weather or not putting it inside custom games just like any other made game. I appreaciate that after 2 weeks finnaly someone had something to say and I wish to hear more of what the readers think.

Well, no shit, there is a reason it is so.

This is the problem of the shitty society we live in, and therefore its media.

Well, if you have an option to put no sex into the game, go with it, because if you do put sex in the game, you're doing the same thing as mainstream media and games are. The best wc3 map I've ever played has nothing about sex in it, it has a few girl characters and they all have armor up to their necks, so you do not even see their feminine figure. The map is called This Wreckage, by Rao Dao Zao.

So the map was challenging and the game play was fun.
The real question is, if the female in that game was wearing less clothes, would it be more fun or will it make it less fun?

Ecchi - Provocative scenes- It is all just a Fan service. Harpy queen naked? So what its a bloody animal. That point is irrelevant unless you are a furry who gets mad over that stuff. I seriously doubt blizzard any such intentions.

However yes there are parts of the game which are "Sex indulgent" as you call it. I doubt many people who play the game actually bother noticing this as they are to indulged in the actual game play. Having sexy heroes or units would only have effect on "seriously bored teens to lazy to search for porn" or for enjoyment in the loading screen. Maybe it is just more appealing to look at.

I am pretty sure if every model was of Men and women completely locked up in Armour, it would get boring and repetitive visually. That is why they add variation. Such as different clothes. While the ecchi is part of the "visual entertainment".

I would say yes it has become part of common place life. As sex is mainstream it is talked about it is open. I don't really see anything wrong with that. It is just the general development and slow progression (as you might call it) of our society.

I don't see why a game gets banned unless it was overtly pornographic. Considering the age rating of the game.

Heck anyway on the last point, I would probably think that to make a game more sexy than just models text or screenshots. I believe you should add some depth into the character.

I highly doubt a 2d placard billboard will ever be as sexy as a full 3d emotional character. Voracious with a sexual appetite yes but with emotions also.

It is really dependent on the person though what they would find as a "Sexy Character", but some relative back story would add to it. Also vocalization would help. Basically you want to add as much stimulation to the senses that can physically be transferred through a digital medium such as a game. Each piece of data placed and used to heighten lus

Well those are my thoughts

Ecchi
...
Well those are my thoughts

I LOVE ECCHI.
Anything you wrote was easy to understand and the simplicity made your view very clear.
WOW you had a very good idea about adding background story: such as the main charicter simply pop into his girlfriend or even more funny into his "3 good old x-girlfriends".
I really like the idea about adding more personality / emotions to the female so that some people will consider her sexy / emotionaly attractive, such as cring when she go into jail or even more dramatic cring when the person she loves get into jail.
Your argument was fantastic!.
Thank you for your thoughts!.
I would like to hear more about what the readers think!!!.

So basically you are complaining that sex sells but not your sex?

You wanna talk about sex or what?

Look, it has never been any different.

Sex is the main reason we exist. We are born because of sex, and we look forward to sex. The oldest profession includes sex. Sex is not only a part of our society but it's most likely the most attractive part. The only difference between today and the past, is that sex is much more present in media. Sex is presented everywhere, on the streets, in magazines, on TV, on the internet, in games, everywhere really.

Sex is a very primitive thing, it's easy to get enjoyment out of it, that's why it promotes things on such a wide scale.

I don't want to insult or anything, but it feels like you just reinvented the wheel... in 2012.

The problem is, sex as presented in the media is completely different than sex is in real life. Because not only does sex sell, but hot sells too, I'd say even more. I mean it's been talked about the past years, young girls have their minds molded that they need to look like Nikki Visser in order to just look good. While young men objectify the woman body more than before. It literary lead to girls barely dressing themselves. Normal girls feel like they are in direct competition with Nikki Visser. Overall it just degrades the self esteem of young women these days.

As for "sex in games" it's rather simple. A game is rated based on how sexual it is. I can say from my own experience, at 13, when I first played wc3 I found like nothing sexual about it. I mean in Warcraft there is just so little sex that even if you perceive it as a child, it can't possibly affect you one way or the other. Now League of Legends... now that stuff sells off sex, it's a porno waiting to happen. But anyway, you as a modder must make sure that your mod does not include more sex than the actual game, and all should be fine. If it's not fine, bad luck.

And btw this section is about Concept Creation as in... writing concept... not... debate about concepts, or explaining concepts. That's Medivh Tower or.......... Off-Topic.

So basically you are complaining that sex sells but not your sex?...

I actually did open this thread to improve how I use elements of sex inside game to make it more fun and "selling".
What you said was clear also: you feel bad about the media being overusing sex and therefor having negetive effect on womans, I myself really feel bad for them as my x-girlfriend was also tring to dress up as model and ended up feeling confused and getting many people looking wrongly at her.
Aside from that, I highly doubt that girls play DOTA, Warcraft 3 or Custom Maps - but as map makers we shouldn't make female players feel bad while playing.
And its not like adding random naked mans gonna do any good xD.
So: Does it matters if we going overboard with sexuall motives?
The answer is a resounding YES!.
I think your argument helped us a lot in understanding about overboarded sexy pictures/text/models/storylines and gave us a greater reason to nerf the use of sexual motives.
Thank you for posting your thoughts!
I think the readers have many, many things to teach us about the matter!
Be sure to say whatever your thinking.

So basically what this represents, is what people want.

The point is, everyone wants the base colored in orange. Less people want red. Even less want teal. Most people however want these basic three things (orange, red & teal). Even less people want the purple area, and a select few want the blue area. However do not assume that people want the blue area, but do not want the areas under. On the contrary, people are in the blue area because they achieved already the orange, red, teal and purple areas first. However there are people who are just in the orange area, or just in the red and orange. So basically this can also be interpreted as how popular each concept is for an individual, where orange is the most common and blue the least common.

Now if you take this information, and move it in marketing, you can understand why going to a restaurant, to a bar, to a night show is more attractive for more people than going to a museum, or building a castle from Lego or building houses in the Sims.

The answer is a resounding YES!.

Exactly, however we cannot fight the media. What we can do is teach people, from a more early age, the differences between fantasy/fiction and reality. People need to be taught that girls on covers are photoshopped, bodies like that do not exist. We need to teach people that body shape has everything to do with bones, no matter how skinny you try to become if you're a girl and have broad hips, that's how it's going to be and she should just embrace them as a part of her body. Teach people that porno movies are not like the real thing, it's just a show, it's fantasy.

And to be fair, sex is not degenerative, it's we who degenerate sex. Through media we show a different meaning to sex, and that's where the problem starts from. It affects my generation from 1988, and it will affect even more the future generations.

If a girl born with body that has a lot of fatness or big bones, the netural proccess is able to turn calcium into other stuff when she doing correct diet, kinda can't accept things about "you were born this way you gonna stay this way" which is prejudice (I know a guy who was 100 kilo and changed it in 1 year).

Also funny to see how MORALITY was both at the top high of this pyramid and most bottom of this pyramid, I wonder what the director meant by that.

Intresting thing to read, what you wrote, but it's kinda hard to understand all of it: the consept was "showing pictures of girls with unreal body is bad" but not all of the model who found on the TV had their picture modified, so, putting girls with real body which is totaly thin - makes it "ok" ?

It's more like...well... When a guy watch those things on the media he is starting to look for it in real life - on girls he meet, on his own girlfriend...
looking for stuff that was implented in the TV as "normal sociaty look" which is not allways true: being anorax is not a normal sociaty look. so if the media put spam of supermodels directing any show, it will indeed change the behaviour of our sociaty into the red, most basic matirial thinking that is totaly make our sociaty a shallow people that we have to be arround with.

However, "if you can't win them, join them" - if an advertisement will start making show of totaly clothed, not sexy womans, they will obviously lose costumers since the most of our sociaty is allready SHALLOW , so what are you gonna do? use advertisement of none-shallow stuff for shallow people? they are the one who gonna give their time, support and efforts and you want them to work with you. Its obviously a must-have inside your advertisement: putting on shallow, random photos of sexy girls. just because the people who play your games or buy your product are shallow. No point to hide from the reality.

Sorry if I wrote too much to read, I didn't notice that I wrote about 50 phrases.

I was talking about people who are trying to be more skinny, but they cannot be more skinny because their shoulders are broad because of bones not because of flesh or fat. Think of the waist of Beyonce. So simply not eating becomes dangerous and won't help that person reduce her waist size.

Also funny to see how MORALITY was both at the top high of this pyramid and most bottom of this pyramid, I wonder what the director meant by that.

The bottom morality is about personal morality. While the top morality is about the general morality of people, it's related to the world.

So now you are going in-depth. you are basically talking about raising a child. There are no set of rules, it depends on how your child takes that information and how it affects him, cuz it might or night not affect him/her.

But still, as a guide line, you must inform the child and make him aware of reality and what shallow means. Also, you can say that models yes are skinny, but they are like that to LOOK good on CAMERA. In real life they very well not may be more attractive. It's also a big difference between looking good and feeling good on touch. When you touch do you want to feel bones or do you want to feel some meat and fat. Of course this kind of speech works good mostly on a person who wants to go from skinny to anorexic. For a person who is unhealthy overweight, you would want to encourage that person to loose some pounds.

Basically you must teach him/her values. It's okay to be skinny but not okay to be anorexic, it's okay to be chubby but not be fat, it's okay you want to look better but it's not okay to kill yourself in the process.

It's pretty hard because you need to fight against society, and many many people are shallow like that.

Values, that's the core thing you need to teach anyone.

Even so, nothing is guaranteed.

warcraft 3 does not do any sex symbols or any sexy moments in the game, I mean if blizzard will ever do the theme then we would see night elf chicks asking druids to bang them and the orc race would have a female model right about now, although the soundset of some female units do express their words with it but the storyline, gameplay and theme does not :)

Can you imagine a night elf chick going to a druid and saying "do me... Bear style".... now that's OP. NE Druids best gigolos I called it!

add sex images to your game and once 90% of the people see them , they'll minimize or close and see a porn site.

i do not recommend adding that stuff since no one will play your map.

I didn't think about this, that's an interesting school of thought!

I think adding porn/sex to the map/game actually degrades GAMEPLAY experience, even if it might cause it to sell better.

In my opinion, it does, and greatly. Unless you're playing a game specifically designed to be erotic, random porn is going to distract players from what they're doing - playing the game. It's the same thing as writing a story; if what you're doing doesn't add to the story or the gameplay, then you're wasting the time of your players with random nonsense.

omg! a tiger with no clothes on!!! I find that very secsy

now, really. who cares about sex insinuation on a game??
it can be embarassing, but a bad joke is embarassing as well

always depends on the author's taste and cleverness...

(after all sex attraction is relative, im attracted to naked tigers, for instance. >.>)

Thanks!. Instantly added to my map.

As I was saying, my x-girlfriend tried to become look like model, she would puke her food planty of times, allways tring to hide why she do it... I think skinny/fat are both bad health state and therefor none of them is good. About models on the TV , they mosly anorax which is bad, I also mate a girl who is anorax just to attract boys attraction... she would jump from man to man her entire life... crazy/unhealthy life style...

Lol Yeh Sexy tiger

no but if it was in 2012 quallity instead of 2002 quallity it would be hella good. Also it spawned some very nice fan art ^^

Prime matron X= IM not really a dominatrix type ;l

Add at the guy who did op its Anorexic ^^ not anorax o_O

I think it just wanted to note people with Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism are "skinny/fat" however can do nothing about it, I get the feeling that was not realised in a few of the posts. Anyway on the main topic:

A good game doesn't need sex to sell, a bad one does. Also considering the rating of WC3, going anywhere above the rating is most certainly not acceptable in any way. And from my personal opinion based on your justification, I imagine adding elements of sex to such a game would be done with a certain lack of finesse, so I'd just recommend not doing it and focus on doing something else with your map instead of coming up with more things to get yourself in the mood to put in it.

But this is the 2012 -> open your television to understand what it means:

...aaaand Callahan has ended the discussion. There's no need to include sex anywhere if you want a quality product. If you want a successful product, it might benefit from it, but not necessarily.

Seriously, anything after the last few comments is like beating the dead horse, there is no need for discussion on things that are so clear.

Actually...
When was the last time you heard of a really big porn movie? Transformers, Avengers and the like might have attractive actresses, but no hyped, big-budget film has ever featured porn. Take, for example, Pirates, the most expensive porn film ever released; it's budget was a million dollars, compared to Avatar's 237 million, Titanic's 200 million, and The Dark Knight's 185 million. The fact is that erotic films aren't a good business proposition, because they sell poorly. Most of the reason is that erotic films are a niche product, a niche that will turn away most casual viewers. In any case, we can see a direct relationship between erotic content and budget (and consequently, profit).
Now, how about erotic games? Like movies, many games have attractive female characters; Halo has Cortana, Uncharted has Elena Fisher, et cetera. But how about explicit erotic content? Not a single erotic video game has been released for the 360 or PS3, and when we look at the ~2000 games released for the PS2, twenty-six of them are erotic (zero for the XBox). I don't have any information on how much they sold, but judging by the number of titles available porn games suffer from the same thing porn movies do. Parents have no problem buying the latest Halo game for their kids, but no parent will ever get their kid a copy of Seven Sins, and the low budget given to these games means the quality isn't enough to attract many adult players, either. Porn games fill a niche, and it isn't a large enough one to attract any serious game developers.

tl;dr: Sex doesn't sell movies, and it doesn't sell games.

Hangover 2 - American pie Change over and shit like that. 90% of movies featuring any sort of Teens. 90% of adult comedies.
However they do not feature explicit sex scenes you do not see anything. But there are still sex scenes and it is involved. Rating issues limit it.

Very impressive what you said - actually I was touched. I actually accept what you said - the consept of sex is really nerfing the selling of a movie or game, since perent wont let their kids buy it. Did Will Smith ever needed sex/erotic scenes to make HIS movies sell? He never did, and he is a very successfull actor/movie seller.
I was asked if I try to do thing I am againts - like putting anorex woman pictures over the map while I'm againts teaching that anorex is good, well of course not, I was thinking about girls who have their dresses not completely on but they can be chobby or whatever. But after reading this thread I really changed my mined ^ about what this guy told , It really changed my opinion: "sex scenes make people ressist buying" its just like he is saying, there is no point of catching those "matirial shallow people" but instead give quility game so that people will join and buy what we made. Since after all , after reading this thread, I start to see not all people are shallow. :ogre_haosis:
"90% of movies featuring any sort of Teens. 90% of adult comedies."
TBH, I rather watch movie of Will Smith rather than those "wow I wanna kiss the girl" "wow I wanna fuck the girl I DO IT TONIGHT" movies since they are boring, I mean, its like the people wrote: You get bored from the movie since it just tries to make you horney, it lacks quility.
LOL, it heared like 90% of the movies are shallow while 90% people don't wanna watch them.

Hangover 2 - American pie Change over and shit like that. 90% of movies featuring any sort of Teens. 90% of adult comedies.
However they do not feature explicit sex scenes you do not see anything. But there are still sex scenes and it is involved. Rating issues limit it.

That's kind of the point. Movies don't want to go over that PG-13 rating, because it restricts their audience and decreases sales. Sex is implied (and sometimes suggestive shots are used; off the top of my head, Fight Club did this), but not shown. Same with video games, like the infamous sex scene in Mass Effect.

It was odd that this thread survived this long. But yeah, this thread is worth keeping alive.

Indeed odd. Though it kinda reached a solution of "people would prefere not putting sex but implied it for the shallow-type buyers."
Even though what I see in day to day sociaty is actually people arround my age (24) which are totaly focused about movies or girls that are shallow.
Kinda funny to see that in this thread most people are actually againts it, which is awesome because it means most people aren't shallow.
