Computer Limit

Will computers ever become so powerful we won't be able to make games that can utilize 1/2 their potential? Or would some insane physics engines be able to eat up a 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 Proc?

Mainly just wondering how far computer technology can go... My theory is, we'll almost reach light speed and then we won't be able to make anything faster.

Well, if i've learned anything, there's a limit to everything, but we humans are really good at finding something similar but better to use instead.

But it's pointless to try to pin-point the future, as all we can do is guess.

I would say that there is no limit to technology, because define computer; I'm sure the computers we use today will eventually be relics, and whatever new technology they'll have in the future will not resemble a modern computer both on the outside and on the inside.

Computer technology already works pretty close to the speed of light, it always has. Those things don't influence the clockspeed at all.

It's probably going to be 10 to 20 years before we reach the nano-tech border, in which quantum mechanics take over. According to the law of moore, a computer doubles its capacity every 2 years, so over 20 years that means the computers will be 1024 times as strong as they're now (right?). When that happens, there won't be any progress anymore. Note that today they already think of other ways to increase speed such as having multiple cores. But if technology will evolve further in 20 years from now at the rate of Moore's law, I doubt it.

Still, bottom line is that if computers get stronger, people just think of applications that require more computing time. So games will always be pushing computers to their limits.

I don't think it'll go that fast ...
My (old) pc served me well for over 8 years ...
Now it's appropriate that I replace it since I can't play the newest games anymore ...
...but srsly... my pc isn't thát bad compared to most people's pcs nowadays...

A high fidelity quantum not gate was just built in a fiber optic cable, so we may be seeing a different and much smaller scale approach to computing within the next 10-20 years. However, as Eleandor said we will just find more demanding uses.

my guess is those scientist guys will always improve the computer using different way but maybe at one point there cant be any improves unless they go to outer space farm some material ship it home use it for computer ♥♦♠♣¿¿♣♠♦♥
