Hello fair people of Hive,

We at www.diplomunion.com are having an SCII mapping contest, the goal of this contest is to encourage the strategy genre of map on StarCraft II.

If your already working on a map, or think you can pull one off, send it in to us!
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Visit Diplo and contact either Grunty1 or Baledwyr. Feel free to also post in the original thread.

The grand prize is $50, second and third prizes will be awarded depending on the amount of participants.

From Diplo:
The contest is running from the second you read this until Oct. 31st. ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE SENT TO BOTH GRUNTY1 AND BALEDWYR BY THE END OF OCT 31st...EST.

The object is to make a fully playable strategy map in the next month and a half. We're looking for functionality, creativity (bonus points for LoC maps), and effort put in.

GRAND PRIZE: $50 USD
Second Prize*: $25
Third Prize*: $10
All transactions will be done via paypal. If a winner is under the age of 18, or is unwilling to use paypal, then a check can be mailed to their address.

There's only a 2nd and 3rd place prize depending on the number of entrants, so encourage all your mapping friends to sign up to create more chances of winning!

Diplo in no way claims ANY ownership to maps produced for this contest. Any cash prize is exactly that, a prize and not a buyout. The mappers who created the map still hold all rights to the map.

Never give a cash prize unless you are willing to shell out at least $1,000 in prizes. $50 is peanuts for the amount of work that goes into a map; it's much better to give more sentimental rewards, such as a victory medal or some other object or status that is given something other than monetary value.

Guys, its just incentive to actually get someone to make a working diplo map. The contest wasn't started by Sniper, he's just going around announcing it to get some hype started about it. And I'd personally take $50 over 50 points of reputation or so that most hive contests give out as a reward.

Without losing generality, a strategy map would be like the Diplomacy maps of SC1 or Europa and Europa-clone maps of WC3. Now for very general examples; a map that focuses on the destruction of your enemy by the construction of unit producing structures from where you produce units and use those units (not the computer) to take out your opponent OR by capturing structures that spawns units every X secs for the player to use those units to again destroy their opponent. In both cases, income can either be controlled by capturing income producing structures or using a system similar to 'nilla Starcraft. Adding in a diplomacy element would also be a good idea, though not particularly necessary.

Speak for yourself, if you are going to make a strategy map, there is no reason NOT to join a contest if there is monetary value. As incentive to actually start a map, I do agree with you somewhat, although I personally find that any money at all is tempting, especially for a smaller contest like this where a good quality map, even if it isn't the best, can actually win.
