I found this image of the WarCraft II ToD Peasant. If you make his axe so it resembles the one in the image, that will be great.
Right now, it looks like his "pickaxe" was taken off some centaur.

Hey, the pickaxe was initially used with 2 hands, so you're in good hands.

That huge/crude axe has been bothering me, too.

hammer to make building more accurate. (who the hell builds using an axe)

Yeah, plus the hammer is sort of large in top heavy for the peasant to even use properly. I'd say he should have his hammer be made so it's much smaller and more wieldy.

That's the original hammer the elf engineer uses. If an elf can 1-hand it then a human has nothing to complain

I suppose the hammer was made that big, for visual means.

Why is there a hammer attached to the axe? Get rid of the hammer.
Use the axe head with the pickaxe attached to it, then shape it so it resembles the one that the other peasant is carrying in the illustration.
Now, get rid of the axe head on your V4 Peasant and replace that with your axe head geoset for your V4 peasant.

The purpose of these Better peasants was to give them hammers to work on buildings
I'l keep it like this for now. If someone want's to use the pickaxe can use v1 or v2 and if they want normal axe use v3 or v4
Hammer is not attached to the axe just on the same strap for v1 and v3
Also it's much more easy to just change the shape of the original axe

If I had to choose I would make the hammer head into a pick instead

I love this improvement for the Peasant unit. I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. Personally, I prefer v3 as it hangs only the minimum amount of tools (hammer and axe), and has the lantern on his waist.

I'm in a dilemma here, because I don't know if this should be moved to the fixed model section.
But, yes, this is basically what all peasants should look like. Have you talked InsaneMonster into using him?

Not sure if he would want but I will show him
