[General] Best way to create a On/Off feature for a hero

I thought this was really simple but now it's turning out very complicated.

Goal: Simply create a On/Off button that a Hero can use

What I'm using it for: When on, a trigger will do something. When off, etc

What is the best way to do this and the best ability or buff to use?

I've already tried immolation and thunder clap but is there any easier way that I'm missing?

You can use two abilities, and swap them like

UnitRemoveAbility(u,ABIL_1)
UnitAddAbility(u,ABIL_2)

Then you can create two triggers to do precisely what you want in each state.

Defend is a nice toggleable ability that does not interrupt orders.
