Attribute based flame strike

I think the title says it all, i need a flame strike-ish trigger that bases the damage on the heroes attribute(something like int*4 damage per second for 3 seconds). i`ve tried a few times but i hav pretty much given up on doing it on my own at this point, i did a search on this forum for it but non of the threads i found either handeled my problem or explained it enough so that a novice like me could understand it so now is asking directly.

Once casted you start a timer that fires every second and damages all units within the cast area X times with your damage formula. for the initial big damage burst you use another timer that fires much quicker but for overall shorter. Easy with JASS and handle vars or equivelant system.

Oh faster answers, i.ve been away so i havent had time to replay till now but anyway. After a bit more testing i found out that i can do both firebolt-ish spells and thunderclap-ish spells do damage by attributes, its just aoe spells not centered on the caster i hav trubble with so starting out with a good way to do that would seem logical.
I hav tried your idea Fulla but im obviusly more of a novice then that becuse i cant get it to work that way. and Dr s. Good i havent fun any good reason to use jass yet, WE is powerful enough in itself for now(i hope) also my problem is actualy getting it to pick the units to damage at the moment so your other advice isent on the agenda yet, i will proberly be useing it when i get the first part to work.

Ended up writhing a damn book...
