I've been looking around for a game with an editor as advanced as the one in warcraft 3. It seems that this might be it.
At first it seemed that the graphics are very low quality, but eventually it turned out that I was playing on a lower resolution. After changing resolution to something more fitting it turned out that the graphics are on par with warcraft.

However, compared to warcraft, there are more built-in functionalities, such as some units being able to jump and some others being able to throw enemies at other enemies.
Below is a short clip of me playing through a minimalistic showcase map.

Notes:
Most hotkeys and key combinations work exactly like in warcraft.
Maximum group size for units is 30. Exceeding it throws out some previous units.
It appears that the food limit can be changed way higher than 300(the default).
Map size 512x512 is the biggest that I could make, but some are speaking of 1000x1000 maps. (specialized editor?)
5 resources: Food, gold, lumber, population(like food in warcraft) and favor(got by appeasing the gods)

EDIT: My computer was a bit laggy while recording, so for some weird reason the video is about double speed.

age of mithology is a really nice game, i played the campaing of Arkantos and the expantion campaing of his son Castor

the terrain tool can do up and down with a lot of liberty. And the good thing is you can move units in the editor like the game and do battles. so i did figths and when the figth was unbalanced i add units.
never tested the triggering,

No thread will be with 0 post if i can say somenthing!

I reckon we already have a AoM thread here.

Yes, you will most likely find better ability effects than in WC3, as AoM is mostly a masses game more than anything: if in StarCraft and WarCraft individual units don't always carry that much weight, in AoM an individual unit is definitely even more useless unless it's a really strong unit, and even so.

Yeah, Anubites and Minotaurs are fun to play with, but the problem in AoM is that you can edit terrain, triggers(?), and little else: don't think you're going to get nearly as much customization options as in WC3. If it is doable at all, it's probably done through file editing and that means local-exclusive multiplayer (using things like Hamachi and such).

Yeah, one thing I've read about too is that adding units is done by file editing. The files are stored in maps just like in WC3, but it's still less comfortable.

Man I remember this game. I loved it when I was younger, I would play this for hours I loved playing with the Norse faith and just take out the entire enemy army with krakens. I never really got into Age of Empires but this game was so good.

It's true you can do some neat things with the editor in that game but I'd still declare WarCraft III the winner if a competition was too be held.

I played this for a while during my childhood too. I played through the expansion campaign once, but I never really understood it (since I wasn't so good with English then) and then I never had another chance because the game refused to install, or the disk got ruined, I don't remember anymore.

I had the same problem but that was mostly with the campaign, the actual vs AI experience you could get without knowing English, not to mention it aided you in picking up a few words you did not know earlier.

To look back at all these games you used to play, it feels wierd to actually think of how many years have passed since their release dates.

Then again, WC3 is also an old game that was considered quite innovative back in its time.
