Disclaimer: I checked 3 pages back which dates back to August 2nd, so I don't think this has been talked about, but If it apparently has just direct me to that hive thread.

In the custom games list you can scroll over the popularity bar and it tells you how many times that particular game has been played in the past hour. Medium popularity was about 80 games (12:36 pm EST). So what I'm wondering is, if my and a bunch of buddies continuously join, load, leave at the start of the map and do this process lets say 25 times each (times 3 of us so that's 75 in 1 hour), will it be towards the top of the popularity chain? Is this how the popularity is measured? Or are they other factors I don't realize or interpret incorrectly? If a dedicated map maker does this for his map, is it moral?

Again sorry if their is some major thread somewhere that my eyes simply arrant noticing. My mistake.

Blizzard has stated that their system for map filtering sucks currently, so I hope that this popularity system thats currently in play won't last much longer, at least not the way it currently is, but as far as I'm concerned just do whatever it takes to try and get your map noticed up there, because otherwise it'll never have a shot until its patched.

FFFFFFFFFFFFF! The SC2 custom games system is flawed, so is the WC3 system. However, the WC3 system is A LOT better than the current SC2 one.

Hmm. I'm going to log on WC3 right now and take a screenshot of the custom games list. Let's see what happens.

Note: I did not scroll to find the most DotA'ee area, I did not refine my search. I hit Tab + G, then Print Screen. Here's what I got.

DotA.png

5/13 DotA, and that's first appearance. Die in hell DotA players. Go f--king play LoL or Garena or something. Leave my WC3 alone.

3/13 LoaP, and that's first appearance. Why is LoaP popular? Why does it even exist? Like.. I've seen more useful shit done with tits on a nun. I really.. just wish you could see my facial expression right now.. cause it's like.. why? Why has god done this to me? Why? I don't understand? What did I do to piss you off, god? Why do you make me waste time filtering through shit games? What a useless waste of my time, like really. Shit like this is the reason WC3 sucks such a large wrinkly cock nowadays. All the good games are buried in complete, total, and utter garbage.

2/13 Naruto, nuff fuckin said. What is this, Asia or USEast?

That's 10/13 games wasted. Do I see Metastasis in there anywhere? Me thinks not.

Popularity IS abusable. All you need is ONE human player and the game must last for a specific amount of time (5-10 mins minimum).

How about this, if you want to debate the popularity system do it in a different ffing thread. If you know somthing for a fact speak up, and if you think you know the answer to my question (like the game must be run for 5-10 minutes at least AKA you arrant sure) you can also post.

stop hijacking this thread. I was asking questions that have factual answers, not asking the community to debate what they think of the system.

Hey Anti :p I think it does work but it wont count it as such till the next hour. and im not quite sure about the Time requirement... Whats lame is my Map was on the first page in Beta... Then it got corrupted right when end of beta and start of release so then was unpopular for awhile then it started to get popular ( 80GPH ) then suddenly, BAM! down to 2-8 GPH... WHY!!!

EDIT:
@Stath: Risk Revulsion

BTW I havent tried this out in awhile but i think it does work

It's just that good maps are less popular and bad ones - the most popular. TDs that are the silliest type of game including Survivals, Outpost Defense or whatever where you just get spammed by incoming units that you end up losing eventually take top popularity. The community is spoiled.

What really nice games I played are missing and never got hosted were Hex'd, WGX nagrand league, Rocket Arena, some FPS. Nothing like that in the lists.

i dont think blizzard programmers are that noob, i guess they are Checking the players IP so if it's played by the same player 20 times in the same hour, it will just count it like if you played it 1 time.

I dont think blizzard would make a crappy system which new maps cant see the light of day ( only in certain circumstances )... WAIT A SECOND...

Anyway anti we should try this out!

The popularity list is horribly abusable. 1 such method is to update 5 different versions of your map and upload them separately. Then take time joining / leaving these games in x min intervals. So if you and a few friends take turns hosting, playing for x min, and leaving. And each of you does a different version of the map, its possible for the first 5 listings (under featured) to be your map. I've seen this done already, and its disgusting. 10 of the same fail map posted in the top 50.

x = unknown time variable that everyone is discussing.

At least in Warcraft III, if you hosted the game people could join it. And those people could then host it.

Yes, it was still some work. Chances were your map would not become wildly successful. But it was POSSIBLE.

As it is, no new map will start without you abusing the system. You can join it... but no one's going to open 50 pages and also join your game. Your game won't get enough people to start.

In addition: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/628234012

It's 5 minutes minimum.

I don't think you can abuse the system enough to really make a difference. The first page is five digit plays per hour...

Sounds like someone is completely biased. I happen to think TDs are not the silliest type of game. Guess what, so do most of the other SC2 players!

Actually no, that was a bug in which the same map would appear multiple times on the list. Not an abuse. :|

I broke it.

Create a game, and open it to the public. Then fill it in. Joining the map didn't work. You need to do it that way. Joining your 2 player+ map and filling it with AIs won't work. You need to do it via Create Game.

After you start it, wait 5 min. And it will work.

are you saying for a game to count in the rankings you need at least 2 people for it to count? Or am I missing something?
