This is an old tutorial I made. I am leaving it open for feedback, before I even pin it. Please, post your suggestions here!

Welcome to Roleplaying Tutorial

This tutorial was made to help you understand the art of roleplaying and learn how to roleplay on the Roleplaying maps. But before you waste time reading this, make sure you have a average force of will and specially patience. The art of roleplaying takes it's time. If you already know the basics of roleplaying, and it's rules, you might want to skip the Initiate Guide to Roleplay.

Initiade Guide to Roleplay

What is roleplaying?
Roleplaying is playing a role, as the name describes, role - play . Instead of stealing other stories, you can create your own story and roleplay as a character or faction you wish to create. Map Makers such as the Demise of the Brotherhood or the Curse of the Magi have found ways of creating a map where roleplay becomes, not easy, but effective, on Warcraft III. It is obvious that building cities and making them look nice takes times, and the terrains should have multiple opportunities of making diverse and different themes. As you might experience, you need a lot of patience to roleplay.

Rules on Roleplay
To have a successfully roleplay, you should not only respect other people but speak nice English. Abbreviations, and stuff of the like that increase other players', who are not used to commodist language, difficulty in reading what you just wrote. Examples are:
"oh r u rly ther?!!" ; "wow tats cul!" , etc.
You have to evaluate the grammar level of the other roleplayers, because using expensive words all the time won't help either, if they don't understand it.
Second, obey the host. Do not argue with other players with childish things about "I took the place first!", as the host may forbid BOTH to use it (happens sometimes). When the host tells you something, obey and do not simply ignore or say no, if you say "no", justify, or the host might take other methods depending on the situation.
Third, don't mass, and don't simply attack a player without warning. In your case, you might not like to see 10 ghouls attacking your gates after you just finished your village or base. If the player says he's not ready, do not simply act like if he is. Same happens if he doesn't want to be attacked. You can't just simply run him through with a swarm of undead if he doesn't want you too. If you see yourself in this situation, call for the red player (which has admin powers) or anyone who's taken over his powers while he is away from keyboard (afk).
Fourth, be careful with the Blight. CotMRP1.1, DoBRP, MRP and some other roleplaying maps DO NOT have the ability of removing blight besides using Dispel Magic or Disenchant and turn it to a dirt which you will find ugly, if in the middle of a forest, or in a snowy area.
Fifth and last, if you are not in the mood for roleplaying, do not annoy other players. In that case, simply leave. Other players will not like to be annoyed because someone is not the in mood for the roleplaying act. Do not just spawn a stupid peon and start making useless stuff with it. If you are not going to roleplay, at least let the others do so.

Other
Nothing else to say besides informing you that there is a shop area in every map where you can get units without having to spawn them. There is also a spawner which will active most of the commands above. Also, to speak in the 00C chat, use a point (.) behind what you write.

Basic Commands

NOTE: The commands do not need to be typed in capital (big) letters.

Spawning
The most used command on the arts of roleplaying. This command allows you to spawn from 1 to 12 units under your spawner. You can spawn anything as long as it belongs to the Object Data. Just type spawn 1-12 UnitName. Note, don't use the plural to spawn them. For example, it's spawn 02 peon and not spawn 02 peons. Here are some examples of Regular and Irregular spawn codes:

Regular Spawn Code:
spawn 07 grunt - This command will spawn seven (7) Grunts under your spawner.
Let's now see an irregular spawn code. Irregular spawn codes STILL spawn units, but the unit code is different. Here's an example:

Irregular Spawn Codes:
spawn 07 wolfrider - This command will spawn seven (7) orc Raiders under your spawner. As you see, the name of the unit is Raider but you used the string WolfRider to spawn them.

Nothing else to say about spawning, I guess. Note, though, that spawning many buildings may cause lag. Spawning 12 castles, for example, will lag for sure.

Coloring
Colors are just player colors. You know, Red, Blue, Teal, Purple, Yellow, Orange, Green, Pink, Gray, Light Blue, Dark Green, and Brown, and Black. You can change the colors of units to whatever you like. For example, you could be Blue, but have a footman with the Gray or Yellow color. To active this command, simple type color ColorName. Example:

color green - This command will turn your unit to the green color.

Note, that only the commands I referred are usable as colors.
Red, Blue, Teal, Purple, Yellow, Orange, Green, Pink, Gray, Light Blue, Dark Green, and Brown, and Black
Here is an incorrect example:

color cyan - This will do nothing. Cyan color does not exist on Warcraft III, but you can consider it Teal.

Sizing
Sizing a unit is easy. The size varies from 1 to 900. As you can imagine, you will most unlikely see a unit with size 1, as it is too small. And, of course, 900 will be a gigantic unit. Here are some examples:

Size 115 - This command will turn your unit to size 115.

Note, that there are irregular unit sizes as well. I mean, not all units are size 100. For example, the Spellbreaker unit is not size 100. I believe it's original size is 85 or 90, so you will notice a size-increase if you type size 100.

Mnstr
The mnstr command is exactly like spawning. But instead of typing spawn you type mnstr. And what does msntr do? It'll directly spawn hostile units (units owned by Neutral Hostile). The rules of the regular and irregular spawn codes also apply here. Here are some correct examples:

mnstr 05 bandit - This will spawn 5 hostile bandits under your spawner.
mnstr 11 footman - This will spawn 11 hostile footmen under your spawner.

Doodad Builder
The doodad builder is a Indoor-help-builder. I mean, the Doodad Builder can build stuff the other builders can't. The doodad builder can be created by Spawning a Props Manager using the Spawner, and afterwords using the Props Manager to create a Doodad Builder. Beds are an example. Beds need the direction you want them to face. Here are the four correct examples of making the doodad builder spawn a bed:

dood b^ - This will make the bed face north when built.
dood bv - This will make the bed face south when built.
dood b< - This will make the bed face west when built.
dood b> - This will make the bed face east when built.

Afterward, use the Doodad Builder, press the Build icon, and there should be a single icon on his building tools. Note, that maps like pRP and FLRP do NOT have a doodad builder.

Tree
The trees are also a command from the Doodad Builder. However, we'll begin by teaching you how to spawn trees under your spawner. The trees are spawned by the first letter of their tileset, and then the number of tree. Some examples:

tree a1 - This will spawn an Ashenavale Tree Wall. The a comes from Ashenvale, and 1 is their first tree. Therefore, tree a2 would spawn an Ashenvale Canopy Tree.
tree l2 - This will spawn a Lordaeron Summer Tree Wall. Lordaeron has Summer, Fall, and Winter. Therefore, l1 is Fall Tree Wall, l2 is Summer Tree Wall, l3 is Snowy Tree Wall and l4 is Winter Tree Wall.
tree s1 - This will spawn a Sunken Ruins Tree Wall (see the "s" of Sunken Ruins). This is the reason why Lordaeron Summer Trees are not spawned by using s1.

To use the doodad builder, simply do the same but replace tree with dood.

Setting Names
Setting names is very easy. You simply have to do the following: setname-Anything. A better example:

setname-John: - This will display the string "John:" behind what you write next.

To talk, type "-" behind what you write. Example:

-Hello, I'm John! - The text will display the following:
John: Hello, I'm John!

You can use other symbols. Like: - , _ , ^ , % , ( , ) , = , and a few others. And, of course, when you write, you have to write with the symbols you used.

setname=Ollor the Cyan:
=We are nearing the capital
- The text "Ollor the Cyan: We are nearing the capital" will be displayed.

Facing Spawner

Facing spawner ('fs) command does nothing else rather than making the units or buildings you selected face the spawner. It's useful for building fair cities and rotating your unit if it is not facing the correct direction.

'fs - The units you have selected will instantly face the spawner.

Note: They do not EXACTLY face the spawner, you will notice some "bugs" on this command.

Conclusion

I hope this tutorial is enough for beginners. There are more advanced commands that I may post later. You can suggest something to be added here. The advanced commands are also in the Quests within the RP maps. Have fun roleplaying.

This guide is really detailed and helpful. I (slightly) edited it to correct a few minor spelling errors. One word that's confusing is "commodist" Would "abbreviated" be a good substitute?

I grabbed the map and will try to take some time to look it over.

what about spawning with custom codes?

(spawn 01 custom_n010)

and tinting?

(tint 0505000)

adding sfx to units?

Weather commands?

The alternate way of spawning (buildings at the top left corner)?

waygates?

Adding abilities to units?

Unit Animation commands?

Host commands? (kick, timeout)

Special unit commands? ('hero, 'harvester etc.)

The RP maps have alot of complicated systems and commands, maybe you should make another tutorial showing the more in-depth features. Feels like this tutorial lacks alot.

(Edit):

I hope this tutorial is enough for beginners. There are more advanced commands that I may post later.

I have sad news about wc3 rping, many people kick players if they don't know cmds (bun Bum Bum!!!) which means the rpers will eventually die out once every rper learns about WoW.

Everyone knows about WoW, but not everyone is stupid enough to spend an entire life playing it, not to mention the every-month-paying.

And that is why I posted this tutorial and attached the map to it. If you guys learn the commands, you can get in.

Hey uhm people, even though it's a old thread but we don't care, it was still under the 15 days. I've just found something out in some maps, the abilup command: Everyone knows it upgrades your ability. But they didn't say you can reach a overrigged level with it. Just get a mountain king for example, upgrade his stormbolt and abilup. Now it's melee and has PERMANENT STUN, now that's awasome don't ya think? I've also discovered many ways with abilup with OTHER abilities, like Charm: No cooldown or mana usage but it still maintains it's power to take over units. That's cool too aint it? Oh and I discovered something drasictly annoying and maybe laggy: The Finger of Death. If you take Balnazzar and learn the FoD, now say abilup and you notice no changes, BUT it's melee and gives PERMANENT beam to the target, it will follow it anywhere. From very short range its still ok but FROM LONG RANGE, that's horrible a huge zigzagging red bolt in the screen, ruins the terrain. Kill the target and the beam stays on the death spot. Also counts for the caster, I think. Oh and I found a new method to error a game but I rather not tell it (PM me if you want to :S). If you abilup the Transmute, you can poof every hero and unit and building, friend or foe, away, no money back off course. Don't worry about your hero, he only dies, so you can resurrect him back. The abilities luckly don't work on your Spawner, don't worry!
I'm trying to sort out which abilupped abilities are lethal or not, like the FoD or the ones who error.

Abillupped abilities:
Stormbolt = Permanent stun, melee
Avatar = Permanent effect
Thunder Clap = Nothing, bit laggy
Holy Light = Only the light effect, no healing
Resurrection = Not yet tried
Animate Death = Ditto
Deathcoil = Same as Holy Light
Death Pact = Kills undead friend but no HP
All Passive Abilities = NO EFFECT, except the extra attributes

If you want to know about a AS (Abillupped Spell), call me here or on Bnet, I'm mostly online.

I give a hand: Get a random unit, say four times 'stormbolt and you get a level 4 stormbolt which has no mana, cooldown or damage. It gives permanent stun and it's melee, the perfect noob item.

I'm sorry if this is too necro-y or too off-topic, but what do you think about 'abilup? Should it be removed? If you think so, I will remove it in HRP 1.4b.

Gaths' right, A map, were you can interact with units that act like they are roleplaying, but then step by step learning and so on, lots of people would apreciate that I guess... I hope...

The problem is, no one would ever host 'learning' rp maps. It would have to be a feature built into the map.

How about a quest-trigger?

You say like '' quest 1 on/off '' and the story begins, just like in a RPG.
The sub-quests get placed random, a city gets build (pro style not some shitty melee style, you know) fast like in 20-30 minutes by the AI. The main quest is unpacking too so you can do it step by step. Etc.

thats not that easy to make... and it would be annoying, the city build thing..

i can imagine a way for it to get done, but wait, sub quests and a city build? your getting out of hand, you might as well make an RPG out of it.

This is true. It's possible, but it's ridiculously hardcore to write code that could generate a good town anywhere, and you can't do all of the things in the editor that you can in game. (For instance, in game you can overlap as much as you want, but you are a bit limited in the editor).

If you want pre-made towns and quests, play an RPG.
If you want human generated towns and quests, play a DND.
If you want to make whatever you want and not be restricted to one singular plot, play an RP.

Easy as that. =)

[IDEA] Got a great idea y'all. We all know those doodad beds (dood bv, b^, b> and b<) and that switched a light by me. How about if you make another rampdoodad? Instead of beds we use... Bricks? Wooden blocks? I don't know
what to use exactly but it does sound great, does it? ^_^
