Also, why did they rename it to Demon Soul from Dragon? It makes no sense. What demon soul is there?
Um ... well:
Deathwing also used the essence of demons aside from dragons as the basis for the "soul", but somehow hid them in the tissue (magic somehow) from the other dragons.
(It was created during the first legion invasion, so it was easy to get demon essence)
Only 'cause of that, I think, was Nekros able to access the disk at all, so they called it "Demon soul".
@Raddazong citation needed. I've not read anything about demons being involved more than Azshara using the artifact to help the Burning Legion come to Azeroth.
Also, it's silly to call it the demon soul and not the corrupted or old god soul, something like that which makes more sense.
