Why are walls/cliffs so picky to work with?

Why cant I make steeper cliffs? I tried downloading MiscData.txt and put into Warcraft III/UI folder, but nothing seemed to changed, I also edited registry to allow local files but still nothing... from here

Is there anyway to make more precise changes to wall/cliff textures without it completely altering the surrounding terrain? why does it rearrange everything around my one square if all I'm doing is switching one single tile from a cliff to a manmade wall? its really frustrating

I know about rolling cliffs, I read the advanced terraining tutorial many times, I'm trying to blend things together with cliffs, walls, and rolling cliffs in various ways

Thanks :)

I got it working but, does it only work by individually clicking the raise tool?

I'm still getting a max level of 2 with standard cliffs, unless I use the raise tool

But... that other picture shows tall cliffs, how do I get those? is that a custom texture?

I can only make mine like this:

+1 to what Chaosium said. If you want a cliff like the screenshot you linked, you'll want to raise one point to a specific height (I recommend using a medium-sized brush) and then you can use the plateau tool. Then you'll get something similar to that.

The one thing to keep in mind is that they won't obstruct pathing, so you'll want to add pathing blockers yourself.

Right I understand, I do use the raise/plateu technique, I just can't get it to look as good as that picture I linked to lol. I get that picture is maybe beyond by abilities, but I really try it's so much work getting everything lined up the way I want when making larger plots of land with various cliffs and valleys... I mean that picture is so clean looking like it legit looks like proper cliffs... It would be so much simpler if the editor just allowed us to stack a wall/cliff up 4-5 high

There's no "manmade wall" terrain types by default and I don't want to use custom textures (I did that before and I want to keep things default)

Like, in my 2nd picture I posted the 2 towers of cityscape wall/cliffs, the only way I can make the land at the top of that tower connect down with the bottom is to build ramps all around one level at a time... I don't know any other way to connect various heights of land without using the standard ramp tool one level at a time in order to connect various high land points between lower points. Does that make sense? It's nothing super fancy

Thanks for the help tho

Hmmm, ok I think I'm starting to get better with the plateau now that I have MiscData.txt working, but I still wish we had a better way to do high manmade walls
