Hi there! Just a question! I was wondering if wc3 resources works to Starcraft II. I think they should do, but I can't test it
You can not use WC3 or WoW models in SC2 unless you completly reanimate them from scratch cause the method of animations are different.
Old blizzard games (WC3 and WoW as that is now 5 years old or something) use the classic way of animating where you pretty much specify what position the model should be in (like drawing a cartoon).
SC2 uses physics based animation, where you set guidelines to how the model should move, and the actual engine generates the rest of the animation. Look at the protoss colossus, its legs will alter their position and animation based on how high above the ground its body is so its legs will never be off the ground.
Unlike WC3 where you could port WoW models and their animations very easilly as they were only some minor changes in formats, SC2 is completly different. Thus you would have to reanimate all imported units from scratch.
To top this off, WC3 and WoW only had 1 texture layer, the actual texture. SC2 uses atleast 3, being the texture, a normal map and an emmisive map. As there are no normal maps you would have to generate those as well and any lighting would need emmisive maps.
Your insight on these matters is keen but you still lack the full foresight for potential. Even given that the Starcraft 2 graphics are superior what prevents inferior graphics from co-existing with them? If reshaping the old models entirely is still necessary what is yet preventing the oldschool look? You can not use WC3 or WoW models in SC2 unless you completly reanimate them from scratch cause the method of animations are different.

Well, that doesn't prevent you from using the oldschool way of animating. It's not like SC2 wouldn't support simple bone movement Oo ...You can not use WC3 or WoW models in SC2 unless you completly reanimate them from scratch cause the method of animations are different.
