I usually attack from multiple fronts, necron flayers or terminators work best for this but I like chaos, so I use raptors and horrors instead.

First, I send a few cultists to occupy the enemy and to allow me to asses the situation. Then I send in some space marines and defilers, maybe some berserkers and predator tanks if I have them. Then I bring some raptors to jump to their flanks and summon horrors behind the raptors(if they are needed, otherwise I send more raptors). I continue with reinforcments of more cultists, space marines, and defilers, and then once I break their army, I march onto their structures. If the battle turns against my favor, I retreat to base where I can use turrets to help turn the battle.

Another trick I like to use is a cultist squad + aspiring champion/sorcerer, put them into a Rhino, and summon a bloodthirster into the middle of an enemy force.

[IG] Defensive on T1, with few troops and expansion but very fast teching. Barracks provide some cover meanwhile. At T2, I must choose between Hellhounds and Sentinels or HW teams and Basilisks, depending on the opponent's race and the map.
In late game, Command Squad takes care of big threats (like Bloodthirsters or Avatars), BB and Leman Russes stay on the front while infantry give some hell to the enemy.

But I do not always play like that. =P

I hope you mean Traitor Guardsmen >.>

I don't like guardsmen because they are weak early on. My cultists can box a Guardsmen player up in the begginning.

I usualy play defensive at start with all races, exept space marines, when i use em to kill nearest oponent. Later, with IG, and Eldar i play defensive whole time, untill enamys destroy each other. Then I charge the last enamy with my full power. Ig IG while waiting for the end, I use assassin to have some fun :p. Oh and I always build a lot of turets. And a lot. I dont play orc nor chaos.

With space marines, I first take a big ground, set up infatry defenses, start fast teching and build a lot of turets. Its a great tactic in Lost Hope (or sommething, when in that big city map, but bases are only on north and west edges of the map). I was in down left corner, all enamis were dead, exept 1 orc who was top right corner. I also held 1 relic so i can build teries. Then he attacked me, with nobz wiith power claws, looted as support, and few killa can. I was almost destroyd (cuz all i had was 1 SM squad, 3 dreads, 1 hellfire dread, 2 land speeders). My turests helped a lot. I started fast building and managed to repel them, Started a counterattack with only a few forces, but was pushed back. Then i quickly started building normal dreads to defend. I build 6 termy suads, and teledem to the relic to defend it (witch is wierd why didnt I defend my bas with em and then repeled). I upgradided all six suads with assailt canons and 8 membersd.

In the mean while my base was under constant attack from nobz, and looted tank bombardment. Few times I broke to attack looteds with my dreads, but he would push me back. Few dreads (as soon as 1 was build 1 woulf go down...), 1 space marine squad (that 1 from the start is still alive!!) and a lot of turets held barely. I even lost a sacred leric cus he was to close to front. Then i used termies to go kil his base, crushing his outposts in the way. When i got to his base i found a sligoth.... Witch wasent a problem cuz he was stuck betvean few buildings. My terimes kileld him in 2 minutes. then i killed his base with. He lsot his tech and his attacks on my base stoped. Then I used my 6 teries (devided in to 2 groups) and 10 dreads (devided in to 3 groups (2 of 3 dreads and 1 of 4 dereads (1 was badly dmged))) to search the map and kill his last little base.

Took me 10 min to hunt whole bases down. That 1 SM squad was stil lalive(!!!) must be cus they were ranged and all dreads melee. I left em with few turets to defend in case of a slugga buy attack. Then in down right corner I finaly found his base. 3 dreads kileld it. Then something interesting happend. All 3 dreads grabed 3 sluggas in same time, rasied them up and used flamers at same time(forgot to print screen :( ). I call it the sincroinzed killing.

Hope you understand anything I sed :p
Sry for 4 psots, but 1000 character per post (i have nearly 3000)

Those which you enlisted before are anti-cpu strategies.
There is no constant strategy that works every time, far from that some work only once in a lifetime. And stop trolling before I report you.

Thats why I dont raid a base with cultists, I only use them to box them up, like I mentioned before. Clearly you didn't notice/understand and thus made a futile comment.
Death to the false emperor

And hailfireer, English is clearly not your first language.

While you're teching don't forget that i'm taking control points you couldn't reach because of your turtling and teching even faster.

And while you're capturing points I can send to you Hellhounds and retake them. =)
Then you may send horrors or defilers, but at that time I'll have enough strategic points to have a balanced match. And, like I said, I don't always use such tactics, I like some variations. ^^

I just get a nice, wide meat-shield of gaunts, synapse at the back, biovores WAY back, and just charge...
It works surprisingly well, especially if I have some scout genestealers flanking...
Ah, I love those genestealers, they are reaaallyy expensive but on a charge they have like 80 rending attacks, which is capable of destroying quite a lot of things :D
Oh, and my carnifex STILL hasnt died, yay for copious amounts of upgrades!

I always keep horrors ready to be summoned too keep the armor at bay, by the time you have chimeras i'll have obliterators.

You need resources to tech and if I have more resources I naturally tech faster.

I don't see any margin for error in understading that >.>

Hm. Ok I will doublepost, since no oneelse wants to.
Been playing with SM and IG in Soulstorm (2 weeks only Tau lol XD). Grey Knights upwer 1337 pown own. And why did they limit bout termis, karskin and ogrin to only 1 squad, and raised dread to 3 vihicle caps. Makes the game cinda imbalanced...

It's the same for every race: 1 Terminator squad, 1 Assault Terminators Squad, 1 Ogryns squad, 1 Kasrkins squad, 1 Possessed Marines squad, 1 Obliterators squad, 1 Pariah squad, and so on...

And about playing only Tau: don't worry, I ALWAYS play as IG (except some times when I want to try the others or just something else). xD
