Ward doesn't face its target

It needs a bone or a helper node called "Bone_Turret". So it is a model edit. If you upload or send the model I can fix it, although you should be able to to do this yourself in magos model editor. Just go to the bone controlling whatever part you want to spin, and either insert a helper nod or rename the original bone. Again, the name has to be "Bone_Turret".

Isn't there that Serpent Ward unit from the Orc's Shadow Shaman? I'm not on my computer so I can't search which specific unit it is but maybe take a look at it and see if it has anything worthwhile. Otherwise what The Silent said would be more of what you're after.

Alternatively, make the ward a building and set the movement speed to 0.
Give it a spellbook with the ability "root", set that ability's rooted weapons to whatever attack(s) you want the ward to perform and lastly, disable the spellbook for the players in triggers.
It works like a charm for any unit and doesn't need model editing.

Is it automatic?
What you'd need to do is give any units that should make use of "root" the spellbook which contains the ability.

In the trigger editor, pick all affected players and disable the spellbook.

If the unit has no attack, create a new spellbook with root (no rooted weapons) and it will turn but not attack.
Same goes for both attacks 1+2.
