[...] I dont know who linked us to a oriental site. maybe cyberduel.
Not to. From. Someone linked to this thread from a website whose people write an oriental language. Chinese-looking, that's what I mean. This is, as far as I know, an automatic process; it doesn't have to be someone known.

Anyway, please be careful with what you're going to do. The reason most altered melee maps suck is because they add tons of races without proper testing. They turn out repetitive, imbalanced and boring.
I really prefer medieval stuff and I would like to see this modification succeed. For that, I ask you to keep things simple and gradually introduce changes, not dump a load of idiotic concepts and units with fancy custom models and nonsense statistics in the modification and then find which end you're going to grab first.
Since the auras subject was mentioned, here's a first tip. Notice how each race in Warcraft III has only two auras: Humans have Brilliance and Devotion, Orcs have Endurance and War Drums, Undead have Unholy and Vampiric, and Night Elves have Thorns and Trueshot. No neutral hero has an aura.

@ Shadonovan

thanks.

@ Rui

Sorry, thats what I meant.

about the auras: good idea, were trying to keep the races similar enough to each other, and trying to keep it simple and intuitive.

Were trying to follow a basic guideline.
We really want to do whatever we can to get this to succeed, so thanks for your input, i'll take it all into consideration.

We want a healthy mix of uniqeness with the races, but we dont want it to be too complex, so we may rethink some things.

Special Scenarios? I don't recall ever discussing such a thing, are you sure your a member of our team? :p

No, last we decided we were having 'sub' heroes in melee, like the captain unit in the human campaign, stronger melee units with auras and one or two active abilities - the point being that they help an army but aren't overpowered or particularly useful on their own.

I think TWIF wants heroes in the Campaigns though, purely for story purposes, it'll probably follow something similar - think AOE heroes? He'll have to clarify that, I'm not 100% sure...

Campaigns my friend. Like, heroes with only 1 or two abilities, being an improved version of a unit. Which, of course, won't be in Melee maps. And no, i wasn't talking about the sub-units.

That is, if we do a campaign in the end..

Something else I forgot to write about the auras: notice that certain units have the auras I mentioned. Bandit Lords, Makrura Tidal Lords and Ogre Lords have Devotion, Satyr Hellcallers, Queens of Suffering and Nerubian Queens have Unholy, etc. But notice that these units' levels are too high to be Possessed or Charmed. There is, however, an aura that is creep-exclusive: the Command Aura. Gnoll Overseers, Kobold Taskmasters, Tuskarr Chieftains, Furbolg Ursa Warriors and Razormane Chieftains have it. The first two can be possessed and/or charmed. This way, there is never a possibility of possessing creeps with auras that you could possibly already have.
I'm not sure what is Blizzard's idea with this, but it's just a few interesting aspects to notice.

terrainer

hey if you still have slots available i would gladly be a TERRAINER for you if need be. I love terraining and i did alot of it in WC3

I suppose everyone here knows about sonsofthestorm. I believe Taylor has gotten a few concept arts from there on the creation of his models.
This is a selfish wish, but I hoped someone would make a model out of this in SC2:Wc4. If you don't know, someone made this Warmage model for Warcraft III, but Druid of the Talon animations were given to it. If anyone has ever played Electronic Arts's Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth, you've probably had the pleasure to bask in Gandalf's awesome animations. I tried finding a video, in YouTube, that showed his animations, but all I found were people complaining how imba one of his spells was. Anyway, these animations would be perfect for the Warmage, considering he also wields a sword and a staff.
So, yeah, a Warmage model with Gandalf animations, kind of a selfish and expensive wish... :ugly:

I Lol'd. I migtht not be on MSN today. Tooltips are done! When u get on MSN me stat!

Still recruiting? I can terrain/playwright (Or however you want to say it). I don't really have a lot of examples right now of my work. However I do right now have a melee up at sc2.nibbits

I've looked through a lot of the pages on this thread, and one thing more than anything else baffled me. Why are you guys doing concept art for units that were already in Warcraft 3? Why don't you just use Blizzard's concept art, since with the new graphics engine you could do it more like what their imaginings were - and it would be more like Warcraft IV.

1. We are creating concept art of units right out of Warcraft 3.

2. Blizzards concept art is depicting Warcraft 3... this is Warcraft 4... times change and the models change with it...

We should rename this thread to [WorldCraft] WcIV, or make it a general WorldCraft thread. Anyway, we have worked a new system to decide what maps should be made, and a suggestions forum is gonna be up soon, allowing you to post your ideas about maps we should work on. Another forum will exist, so that players can comment and vote "Like" or "Dislike" on a map.

I think that, instead of having a separate forum, you should ask for hosted forums here, at the Hive, while keeping the website. I do not understand why people so often diverge instead of converge.

I've got a nice idea for the gameplay mechanics of the Burning Legion, if you intend to keep them.

I *might* be able to make some models/textures. Depends on my motivation. I was planning on making a lot of fantasy models for SC2 anyway
I don't animate though

We are always looking for great warcraft models out there. If you help contribute, you will be credited. don't worry about the animations. We have people who can do that for us, but we are short on people to supply the actual models we need.

I just found this post, read the first few pages, and didn't see anything about anyone applying for music director. I can write you guys up some great WC3 style music, and send it to you. Also I'd love to help work on the story, I know every bit of lore their is to know on WC, so ya hit me up with a PM if your interested and I'll start writing some music.

Yeah, that is probably our top most concern, I doubt the competition will work (due to people wanting to make non-fantasy models for a change) however it's a 'good idea' in theory, I will pitch it to the team.

Thanks for the input =)

-------------------------------

We will begin looking for more team members upon TWIF's return.

I think modelers will be the first and last problems with this mod, more than the music. If you send the mod in with good models and Starcraft music, people will say «Well, it's Starcraft music». I heard Protoss music is even inspired from WoW music.
But playing Warcraft with Starcraft models, though... people will probably notice, as it's not their idea of a Warcraft IV. Also, remember that models are not units exclusively; you need projectiles as well.

Guys, let blizzard make Wc4.

So far, Blizzard has made great and (mostly) unique stories for each of their games.
Do you really wanna fuck up the plot of Warcraft 3?
Besides, blizzard has 100+ members working on their games, all of which are professional artists, modelers, and team organizers.

Think about this before you ruin warcraft 3.

If you want to wait until at least 2015.
Also, since this is somewhat of a community project, input from the community will shape the way it is made, meaning that it will be made the way we like it. Blizz likes to sometimes fuck up things sometimes, and make them not fun to play.
