I was just curious, what version of the Vbulletin software are we using here at Hive? Do you (Ralle) buy/automatically update the newer versions they release, or what version do you (we) use?
Only downside is 3x is at the end of its life cycle now, they're no longer updating it, only fixing security issues. But I guess Hive 2.0 will solve that. It's built from scratch right? Or is it just a heavily modified Vbulletin core?
Yeah vBulletin 3 is a dying thing. That is why development of Hive 2 is important as I refuse to upgrade to vB 4.
I will post about Hive 2.0 soon enough.
Cool Ralle, thanks for info
And yeah, I concur... Vbulletin 4x is a bit pricey - although, saying that - it is a software lifetime license (whereas I believe in 3x you paid for a year of updates or something...?). So in their defence, that's probably a good explanation for the price tag. Regardless, I look forward to the unveiling.

Since I started using vBulletin I have learned a lot. And to be honest, while vBulletin is pretty and smooth, the code is not very modern and frankly quite inefficient and hard to expand even though they have the product system which allows you to install addons.
I hear you, Vbulletin will always be Vbulletin. They can release 10x and it'll still function much like all its predecessors. 4x's biggest advantage is the aesthetics, the actual functionality - to me - doesn't seem all that much improved.
