vBulletin Hosting

I recently got the news that ralle could let us host a free website or a regular website with vbulletin and vBadvanced installed. If its free hosting, it will have the sub domain: Hello But this is up to ralle. I know that the hive is just a WarCraft III modding comunitty, but it could have some other sites running with it. And if the other sites get more clicks/ users, the hive might get a lot more ppl with more affiliates. Im just saying

It would have to be the same vBulletin install as the vBulletin license agreement allows each licensed copy to be installed at only one location.

You would have to purchase a new vB license for every sub domain he hosts. Which could be anywhere from $87-$160, depending on which license.

But I don't think it's a good idea. It would sap bandwidth, take up server space, and cause slow downs. And the only pro is that we might get more traffic, but visitors would get a sluggish experience as a side effect of the above mentioned reasons.

The Hive is fine, it's got plenty of members and traffic. It's just not worth it. Too many cons, not enough pros.

Nope, he could have a subdomain with a page that displays, using frames, a sub forum of THW.

It allows for people to customise their 'frame' without ralle having to fork out for more vB licences.

You guys dont understand, ralle has the licensed vBulletin, he could do anything with it. Domains usually cost $5.00 now days. Subdomains are very cheap. cheaper than you expect it would be. $1.50. If you have a leased vBulletin, you cant have a vBportal or vBadvanced installed. Ralled could make us host our own webs for $5, and theres about 700 ppl in this server that wants to host it so ya.

@Py, subdomains are free, but hosting a fresh install of vB under a subdomain isn't.
