unable to select verticies in milkshape

well the title says most of it
every now and then i come across an unselectable vertex
i cant even select the face that is attached to it. the only way to move it is to select the group but ive ran into a wall in that when trying to edit a demon hunter model its already been grouped so when i try to select that one very important vertex i get the whole model, is there any way to unselect from a group selection down to a single vertex, or a way to fix this very annoying bug?

It may be that you have the ignore backfaces option on, you can find that right underneath the option when you are using the select tool to choose whether you are selecting vertecies, groups, etc. If it is on turn it off and see if that works.
