Transparency getting lost on conversion

Attached is my photoshop window

(on the other hand, how do i put attachments into posts? )

but the problem im having is when i use Save for Web to convert to .jpg it loses its transparent borders (as seen by my avatar)

What setting am i overlooking? -_- (i can post the Save to Web window also if needed)

.jpg doesn't have alpha channels, foo' use .png

when you save with transparency in Photoshop go to file > save for web and development. Then look for a pull down window with a word of .gif. Click it and change it to .png 24 so you can take full advantage of the transparency feature. Then save.

I've said this all from memory of using Photoshop in school with macs so tell me if you run into any faults or just google stuff. I also don't have Photoshop on my PC so yeh.
