Quid pro quo, Clarice
I like the simplistic attitude of this. The grass tiles in the middle right give a great contrast to the barren pile.
The straight horizon is also refreshing since this extremly inclined views became a thing.
Overall it is nearly perfect but I would change the angle a little bit so that the horizon is behind the middle of the pile.

I hear you but spiritually this would detract from the color pallet being symbiotic with itself and may undermine the basics of color theory

How is this?

Wow, it is interesting how little changes can alter the artistic meaning completely.
Now it seems to me like an ancient American Indian object which shall question the meaning of life.
I may even go so far saying that it questions the meaning of existence.
The mirrored symbol could also represent an even deeper meaning, which I can't indicate yet.
You may went to far with this. If it falls into the wrong hands it could be abused to propagate totalitarian virtues.

tiles tiles tilessss, have you decided which one will you make after all?

For the modern theme, well you could minimize that building a bit or change the camera's z offset a bit so it wouldn't obstruct that sun too much....making a low background city skyline.

You could add some sort of amusement park or normal city park in the forefront.

This thread is brilliant in so many aspects.

Stryder innocently asking for advice, fladder finding inspiration in his work and creating an actual piece of art that would later trigger a Minimalistic Mini-Contest. Even Gilles is enthusiastic about it! Maybe hat's why I suddenly felt I should stop whatever I was doing and come check this thread.

And Stryder, your modern-themed scene reminded me of Star War's Tatooine because there is some kind of moon/second sun in the top-left of the sun glow - you can use that to your advantage.

FamousPker49, [Death], MaDseN (how epic would that be?), to name a few more.

We could go even more oldfag and get correx (I think that was his name), dungeonM, and that guy that worked on the early terrain for the WoW mod. Started with an N I believe.

Actually, the minimalistic theme contest would be an extreme contrast to the Castles/Cathedrals theme which is good, I think.
Since the other terrain contest ends, one could start a submission thread for this subject.

-> Terraining Contest #17: Minimalistic - The Ion Cannon Scene

I am curious about the rules which prevent entries like this:

Why would we want to prevent it? Anyone providing such an entry should be aware
themselves that they'll get an equally minimalistic review and certainly won't win.
- Discouraging it might merely encourage it more than simply not mentioning it.
