The Hive's Highest Peak

Most users ever online was 7,862, 02-12-2015 at 05:04 AM.

I wanted to ask this for quite some time now, what in the world happened during February 12 that 7,862 users and guests were in the site at the same time? The last "peak" the Hive had was back in 2012 where around 4k were online.

What happened? And when might it happen again?

Let's say many people are downloading our resources center. While the others are buzzing bees who's always around around then.

It's sort of random, but I think it's usually revolves with major development releases and such.

I think it's better to look at what users are online. These 5000 "users" are most likely 90% bots.

Oh yeah, I remember. There are bots around trying to register and spam the whole forum, I remember encountering some of these.

Probably spider bots that make up the majority of that number, though. They aren't bad. They pretty much determine the ranking for web pages within search results. Basically they are search engine explorer bots for exploring content, organization and linking. Spam bots and ad bots are the malicious kind and we deal with them on a regular basis, but we rarely get more than 5 on a good week.
