I exported an mdx model (downloaded) from 3DS Max. I got a message "opacity unknown". When I tried opening the mdx with Magos Model Editor I got a message "The File is Not an MDX Model!".
It's possible it doesn't have the .mdx extension on the file (does it show that properly?) If it does you could try giving it the .mdl extension instead to see what 3DSMax thinks of that.
No problems seem to show with the extension. The 3DS MAx script doesn't export .mdl files but I changed the extension from .mdx to .mdl. It doesn't give any errors when opening the .mdl but it opens nothing, it's empty.
The file is originally an .max.
