Abstract Terrain:
Title pretty much says it all. The goal is to make a terrain that does not at all resemble real life, but rather conveys a concept.
Emotional Terrain:
Create a terrain the conveys an emotion: Love, hate, grief, etc.
Reflections:
I could judge it.
Horror/Comedy:
Similar to the emotional idea, but the idea would be to either make the viewer laugh with mirth or scream with terror.
Indoor:
It could just be indoor in general, or it could be specific:
Dungeon
Museum
Palace
Temple
Playable Indoor
Water:
Do something creative with water: Put a reflection in it, have the camera halfway underwater., etc.
Book/Movie-Based:
Make a terrain based on a book or a movie. It might be wise to cut out the movie part, because otherwise people would just copy the movie instead of using their imaginations.
Dante-Based:
Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, anything from The Divine Comedy.
Sci-Fi:
Title says it all.
Prisons:
Kind of an offshoot of the dungeon idea, build an epic prison for someone truly evil.
Prehistoric:
Dinosaurs, Ice Age, Cavemen, etc.
Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft:
Something inspired any of these.
Renaissance:
Terrain something from the renaissance.
Modern:
Title says it all.
Alien World:
Terrain something on an alien world. The idea would be for the terrain to resemble Earth as little as possible.
Weather/Extreme Weather:
Create a terrain that features some sort of weather. If the theme were extreme weather, then it would be something like a hurricane, tornado, etc.
Odd Camera-Angle:
You may create any sort of terrain, but you must use an uncommon camera angle (Upside-down, sideways, etc.) for it, and make sure it looks good from that angle.
Close-Up:
You know those photos that are like closeups of a butterfly sitting on a flower and stuff? That's the idea.
Animals:
Pick any type of animal and do a terrain about it. Anything from a bee in a beehive to giant squid swimming around at the bottom of the ocean.
Contrast:
Foreground: Deep canyon, Background: Huge mountain. Stuff like that. Make a terrain riddled with contrast that is still pleasing to the eye.
