I thought of this idea after playing a game of Sim City Wars (which, itself, is a very good game). The goal is to kill the enemy King (or maybe a shrine or something).

The game would require a lot of teamwork. Each player would play his own part. There would be a Melee Commander, a Ranged Commander, a Spell Commander, a TD guy, and a City Manager.

The various Commanders would be in charge of their individual factions. They could choose different types of soldiers, and have different races. For example, the Spell Commander could choose to follow a path that favored friendly buffs, or a path that favored offensive spells. They would be the army that fought to kill the enemies king. Each Commander could choose a hero that will have strengths and weaknesses.

The Tower Defense ..guy.. would be in charge of the final barrier between the enemy army and his king (units take time to train, so the others might not be able to build a force so fast). He would have a large variety of creative towers, that are more accustomed to a TD, so that he has a lot of options when defending his town/king/thing-to-be-protected.

The City Manager would control the economy. He gathers gold from mines, and decides how the gold is to be split up among the various players (this system might be complicated, I'm going to have to think of a way to make it simple to the average player). Each side starts with a mine, but there are many other mines on the map. The two factions are going to have to fight for control of them, so that they can get paid more. The City Manager also builds buildings that are required for upgrades. For example, a Melee Commander could not build Knights until his City Manager had built a Stable

So that's it.. It may be a bit complicated, but it could be a very fun game if done well. Suggestions/Criticism would be nice. Although I like to do projects solo, if you wanna help somehow, you can.

So..

Races for SpellCasters:

Priests: Mostly Friendly Spells
Blood Magicians: Mostly Enemy AOE, misc. others
Necromancers: Mostly Single Target spells, probably the hardest race to play as it would require alot of micro.
Mages: A balanced mix of everything

Races for Melee:

Barbarians: High Attack/Speed, Low Life
Champions: Highly trained warriors of the human army. Balanced mix.
Norse: High Armor/Attack, Slow Movement, Cold Effects
?????: High Life/Armor, Low Speed/Attack

Races for Ranged:

Night Elves: High Attack/Range, Slow Speed/Life
Trolls: High Speed/Life, Low Attack/Range (Opposite of NE)
Dwarves: High Attack/AOE/Siege Damage/Range, Very Low Speed/Life
?????: ??????

TD Races:

Dwarven Engineers: Focuses on high splash towers.
Blood Elf Engineers: Focuses on effects/spells from their towers.
Undead Acolyte: Focuses on high damage single target towers.
Fel Orc Engineer: Balanced Mix

Some Ideas for tech buildings:

Stable
Armory
Library
University
Refinery
Town Hall/Keep/Castle
Masonry
Aviary
Training Barracks
Carpenter?
Hospital
...need MOAR ideas

I don't like games where every player has a different role. A N00B could ruin the game for 12 players. I suggest small teams, rather than 2 big factions.
Anyway, I have never seen anything like this. Then you are original. Then It might be good. Then I may play it.

I've experienced this in games where players play roles, so the solution is to share control when a player leaves, and to allow the City Manager to boot people on his team. This way, one just has to make sure the the Manager is not an idiot. If this gives the Manager too much power, then I can fall back to a vote-kick system.

It might also cause noobs to never be able to play the game to get better because No one would want a noob on their team.

Unless noobs themselves make it...

The game wouldn't be too hard to play. Basically, you train units to fight the enemy. It's a simple strategy that really only needs common sense to play. The hard part would be getting a good Manager. I would probably always play that part in my tests where I try to spread the game around, so I can give a good example.

And that's not really a good complaint anyway to me. "No one would want a noob on their team." I find it hard to make a good game in which someone would want someone who sucks on their team. Besides, how would you really know anyway from the loading screen.

AND I SAW THAT SUBTLE INSULT.

THis is something I've been worried about personally for a while now.
How to make a game so that even a noob can play it and still be decent.

COmmon sense is pretty much the goal, its a good call to make it like that.

Its just something I've been worried about though especially for more popular games.

I'd just like to have everyone able to work togethor in beautiful harmonious safe way that treaches more then forces people to be afraid of losing.
Sort of like Micro Arena.

And I don't think I made an insult, but i like how you reacted to it :D :p

Good Idea

This is a good idea. When I saw the title I thought you might have had my idea (which will be posted shortly), but this is very different and, most importantly, looks fun.

Gunpowder-making-place:
How about Gunpowder Refinery? Or something like that?

Hey thanks! The title of the thread is very ambiguous, so I could sort of see someone seeing their idea in it. I'll use the Refinery idea, but I'll just call it the Refinery to let it be vague and apply to many different classes of units.

Edit: I gots a new idea. Since every person has a choice of race except the manager, why not give him a choice? He could choose either his type of government or king, which would benefit different parts of the economy and be worse for other parts.

Example: Imperial King: +10% income to Towers, -2% income to armies. And some other jazz.

Another Edit: This may be the way that the Manager controls income. He chooses the type of government, which controls which players get more/less bonuses.
