I am ready to launch my campaigns, but there is only 1 thing left. My map tends to lag whenever a new music is played, and i tried various ways people say to try to stop it. I tried clearing the music list, setting the music as a sound varable and delete it etc. However, it still lags whenever a new music is played. Can any1 give a solution?

  • Actions -
    • Play Music
    • Destroy last played sound
Er, I think I read that in an anti-leak tutorial once, but whether it works or not is beyond me.

Either way, best of luck. 22 maps is... quite phonominal.

Its singleplayer so it should not lag as there is no network traffic involved (unless your CPU is so crap it can not keep comunications up with the game server part of it).

This has nothing to do with leaks, it is caused by the game having to load the music from disc which is a lot slower than RAM. The solution is to preload the music files into the game (recomended) or use a solid state disc to play WC3 from (stupid solution).

I don't feel very stupid while enjoying the benefits of fast saving/loading times

So you finished all 22 maps and decided to start new? Lol... (obviously this is not the case).

You should consider looking into Starcraft II. Some of the maps that are emerging are amazing.

i had trouble with the 22 map one, so i kinda quitted. And yea, starcraft. Do i need sc2 to create sc maps?

use a cheap usb flash drive instead ;)
Too bad USB interfaces are like sending an old man to China back in the middle ages... Using a mechanical hard disc is faster due to better interface bandwidth. You can not compare USB to SATA as far as bandwidth goes, its like comparing a pram to a formula 1 car.

Solid state discs are not a viable solution for map playability. You can not force people to buy them for a map as they are far too expensive.

Most people turn off sounds & music in wc3. I tend to only leave Sounds on :p

Anyways I had the same problem with you. Music list won't work unless you wanna spend days deleting or moving warcraft music tracks, so that when its empty you can add your own, add a random track from music list and enjoy.

Oh yeah, and it creates lag. Talk about endless possibilities :X

it's not like you can load billions of GB of music out of a map....
but I will test it later and see which one is faster

edit:
does not make a noticeable difference

and I found out a few other funny things:
-loading from thumb drives is faster
-saving is slower
-sound variables created with the sound editor are preloaded automatically

You mean a USB memory stick was faster? There must be more too it than you think. Like maybe the normal drive is not of good quality or the way the OS cached the data.

-saving is slower
Too be expected, epsecially with cheap flashdrives. They are notorious for having slowing write speeds (when writing huge blocks of data).

Yes but proper mapers never use that.

Is the music MP3 by any chance? It may be because of the decompression algerthim.

tried with wav now and it does not make a difference either
I also copied the whole wc3 folder to flash drive and started from there because I thought that wc3 created a temp map file if I start the map using the editor (which it most likely does) but it still does not make a significant difference

preload and probably ssd's are the only way to prevent lag when playing something for the first time

Guys i had fixed it. I did it randomly lol, i just put stop sound, destroy sound, stop music, clear music list, wait 0.5sec, and then play music. It didnt gave me any lag. So i guess this thread is closed?
