Actually Commander from terran campaign left Raynor after campaign apparently. Only named character is Artanis rest are all left to be mysteries. Two zerg cerbrates, UED captain, commander and brood war executor (Selendris is speculation duo to Twilight book but not confirmed) are all unnamed.
 
Erm, as I recall Matt Horner joined the Sons of Kohral, and only then he met Raynor - he didn't knew him before that, so it means he couldn't be in charge of some of Terrans at the begining of the SC campaing.
My guess is that in SC1 Terran campaing the commander was Raynor himself - I mean, in SC2 Adjutant calls him Comamnder, right? So I guess it was Raynor all along.

So yes, that could be Selendis.
Well, in Brood war you got to control UED captain, but I hope you'llget to meet him in SC2, too.
 
But in terran mission you talk with Raynor personally. Besides as I said the "Commander" resigned Jim Raiders and was never seen again which means neither Jim nor Matt can be him. He was before war a magistrate of that colony world where campaign starts.

As or UED captain he is speculated to be dead. There isn't much info not even speculated when it comes to player characters.
 
The Magistrate of the first terran campaign was just some guy who led the colonial militia, who joined Raynor. Zerg are both cerebrates, and if I recall they are even one cerebrate, Kerrigan being kinda attached to the one who protected her during her cocoon stage and stuff.
Second protoss executor is theoretically Selendis, first was just some guy, I dont think it could be Artanis, since he's from another caste.
And of course the guy leading the UED is a UED captain.

But it doesnt matter much now, since Blizzard wants to retcon the whole thing with commanders and executors, and instead say that they never existed and make you be Kerrigan and Raynor and Zeratul.
 
Nah, in Brood War they were mortal. The New Overmind was just a bunch of cerebrates merged togeter, and they didnt master the powers of... the Void, like the real Overmind did, which allowed him to revive the cerebrates, which is also the reason why Dark Templar could kill them forever.

And I guess they just crawled out, or were carried by drones, like ant queens are.

Also, there is a difference between agelessness and immortality.
