I think that it certainly can't beat the charm of it's older 2-D brother, but it should be viewed as if it is the separate game.. without expectations..

Well I expect it to have a good story line. And isn't crappy like wow. And i don't want them to kill Jim Raynor, Zertaul, Atrantis, Kerrigan, or Matt Horner! If they kill oone of these guys i Deem it CRAPPY AS WOW

Problem is that fans that played older game rarely enjoy new game and new fans will think that new game is best. Examples are Heroes series, C&C series and such. Like people still like Heroes 3 even tho Heroes 5 is 3D and brings many new and uses old things.

And old characters don't live forever. Some of them will die (who is Matt guy anyway?)

They can kill Kerrigan, by all means. I never liked the little-...I should probably stop there, honestly. Zeratul and Artanis I never really cared much for, but Jim and Matt MUST stay alive, if you ask me.

Yes death to Kerigen, bring back cerebrates! I liked Zeratul but never much Artanis eve tho he is character you control in first Starcraft. Jim..meh guess he is alright but who is Matt?

I heard that Blizzard will put price on some custom games but I doubt that everyone would be able to do it.

Strange how old games grow on you like that? I still play Starcraft 1 on garena and would probably play warcraft 2 if I knew where my cd was. Tho there is that free floppy sized legal War2 for multyplayer only.

You maybe but many gamers prefer old games then it sequels. Examples:
Red alert 1 and 2 are still praised wile Red Alert 3 is seen in bad view, Tiberuim Twilight is seen as an insult to all C&C games because it literally changed whole gameplay.
Heroes 3 is still one of most popular of it series despite Heroes 4 and 5.
Heck some people even now prefer Warcraft 2 then warcraft 3.

To achieve this you must first play old game and then after some time play new one. Of course this isn't strict and if person first plays newer game he could never like old game because to hm it would look well bad.
