Ok lets get one thing straight, there will not be a monthly fee for Starcraft II. Blizzard has stated this several times.

And an active connection to Battle.net will not be required to play singleplayer, although Blizzard is trying to encourage people to play the game while connected to Battle.net, so they get achievements, chat with people, etc. A Battle.net account and an internet connection will be required for the installation, but after that players are free to use a guest account, which I guess is just the same as playing the game offline.

Think it's also to help combat pirating, getting people to sign up and register their cd key etc.

Blizzard games are the only time ive ever done this as its actually easier for future events to be registered with blizzard then not, other companys arre mostley just a hastle and no payoff in the long run. Blizzard actually saves your CD key incase you lose it and lets you redownload the game anytime and anywhere.

I hope to god that Blizzard and StarCraft II won't fail as much as Relic did with DoW2. Obviously StarCraft II will never used Live, but it shouldn't require online for EVERYTHING...

i have played command and conquer 4. in order to start the game people have to log in with their EA accounts. i believe that blizzard will do something similar with starcraft 2.

NO! 100% NO, HOW MUCH TIMES DO I HAVE TO REPEAT THAT PEOPLE? (sorry for capitalization, but this question and how often people ask about it pisses me of...)
Blizzard in not EA. EA are assholes, Bllizard are not assholes... maybe just a little... Bllizard said there will be no LAN multiplayer, you will be able to play multiplayer only trough b.net... thats it. You will not require to be connected while playing singleplayer or doing anything like that, you just need the connection to play multiplayer...

why is there then a single player option in the battle.net lobby.

Because you need to be logged in to gain achievements.

So let's get this clear:

You can play single player OFFLINE, but then you will not gain achievements and other lulzy funny things.
If you do player single player ONLINE you will be able to gain achievements and other lulzy funny things.

In one of the Q&As it was said you were practically required to keep a small, mandatory connection to Battle.Net during play, whether online or "offline".

Not really. Some companies like Ubisoft planing to use it in all games, but thats wrong, pervert and you can count it as internet provider advertising. Its not a normal thing, and not only for strategies. Like all Valve games don't have it because they sell them only trough Steam... all game companies take different anti-piracy actions.

Oh dear lord active connection required!? Why but surely no one would have a constant internet connection!

Sorry I just had to.

I do not care for the "always connected" option at all. In fact, if it is there, I may just bypass this game as I did with Settlers 7. I dont play multiplayer at all, and never will. I don;t care to "chat" with my friends online, and I especially do not care about achievements. What I do care about is being able to play my SINGLE PLAYER game anytime and anywhere I feel like, regardless if I'm "connected" or not.

I am surrounded by people all day long, my gaming time (in the evenings) is for rest, relaxation, and isolation. I do not want anyone or anything to intrude upon that time.

there is emulation software for starcraft 2. it can be found on the pirate bay. the pirate bay was sued. they even lost the case but the website is still there.

Don't talk about torrenting sites. Rule on Software Piracy:

Then you are being closed-minded and missing out on a chunk of what the game has to offer. Further, if gaming for you is about 'being alone' then why are you on a modding community board which is primarily about social interaction?

It sounds more likely to me you had your feeling hurt across the internet and decided to shelter yourself while defending your stance against multiplayer with a smokescreen excuse. Either that or you are a Yahtzeeh fanboy. Stop putting your back up in the air against things you have no care about with some illogical notions.

Because I dont have any interest in multiplayer, I am being close minded? No, I just don't want to play multiplayer. I play games to relax and get away from people. And why am I posting here? This is not specifically a modding thread, but more about startcraft 2 being playable, even for SP, with a constant connection to some far off server.

And I still have an interest in modding, but for my own purposes. I have to be interested in MP in order to make maps for myself, or even cinematics which what I'm really interested in?

No my back isn't up, I was merely responding to a thread about SC2 having to be online and always connected in order to play. Which for someone who only is interested in SP makes no sense whatsoever.
