Spell Book or Skill Tree?

Could always do a modular skill tree basically where your spells aren't pre-defined on the unit/hero but are put into slots instead or chosen for each hand(a certain hot-key). Though that's a bit more work. That is kinda part of the bigger picture of a map i'm workin on now.

Also skill trees are annoying. They are often too pre-set. I'm thinkin of trying to create a completely adaptive skill tree that adds new skills to learn based on the skills you learn.

Then i'd say you should go with the skill tree idea for sure. I think it'd be a great idea for a skills to eventually define classes rather than the other way around but it is sorta a bit more work to think in that matter. However I think it turns out for a better game and much less cookie cutter with just an wow or d2 talent/skill tree.
