So I just started modeling about a week and half ago, and this is my first model, i've been having a lot of trouble with it, but i've fixed some of them. As you can see I have a lot of un-needed polys i'm sure. I wanted to get a basic model going before I went back and tried to fix any of that, it's also my first model, so I wasn't as worried about it, as much as I was learning what to do, etc.

I've been having a lot of trouble with his arm, I can't seem to get it right, it just keeps coming out wrong, I tried rotating it, moving the verts myself, which gave me even more trouble, rotating seemed to work, then moving the verts where they needed to be (is there a easier way to do this?). Then onto the hand I have no idea what to do, I can't seem to get a basic shape so i'm unclear on what to do (again any tutorials on this or something that you might know of so I could follow?).

Anyways here's the picture, I think I welded wrong in the elbow area and now i'm unsure on how to fix it, also how do you had pockets? I want to add pockets into the area I indented on the jacket, so I can stick his hands in there..

and a image of what i'm trying to model him after for those that are unsure who he is.

if anyone can help i'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance!
