Sea Serpent

This bundle is marked as awaiting update. A staff member has requested changes to it before it can be approved.
Hello, I keep getting these messages about the sea serpent I "made" long time ago. So I decided to release it. Please keep in mind that the base of the model animations are not made by me, it was made ba Kehel a really long time go. i was not able to contact Ms. Kehel to ask for approval. I made my own mesh with addiaitonal animations for water use as a part of my Vrykul race compendium. I dont wish to taky any credit for this resource, I woudl be satisfied just with the knowledge that it could be approved and used in various maps, If model will ve rejected, at least I tryied.

Anyway, enjoy, hope you will find good use of it.

Here it is...the mighty Sea Serpent.

That's a really nice looking sea serpent. There are some fixes to be donem though. Lacks attachments as "Chest Ref", "Hand Left Ref" and "Hand Right Ref". Might sound crazy, but in a melee game those are necessary even to a snake, to display buffs...

It looks very good, though the main problem with those models is that the collision for them is hell.

Well it's not the model but warcraft 3, having weirder shapes like snakes will always have it's graphical problems when fighting and in large groups clipping trough one another and such, not much to do.

well this has a few imperfections.. the largest of them being lill funky wrapping.. i'd copy-paste each of the body segments as a separate mesh within the same geoset, wrap them all to exactly the same texture coordinates, and then put them back together, replacing the original mesh. it's neat, and doesn't need re-rigging

the second thing is how the snake is postured in many animations, sure it needs to be long, but if it were always coiled into a stockier area, it would look and behave much better in warcraft. if you check my najanids, you'll see that i made them pretty long, but only in a few anims they show how long

Very cool! It's nice to finally see a full-size, fully-animated "Snake" model here!

I'd say my biggest concerns are the lack of TC, and (unfortunately, since you didn't make the animations & so are not likely to be able/desirous to modify things this greatly) his length. As Sniper of Darkness said (good point, mate), if they stay stretched out all the time like that, there will inevitably be clipping & stuff as they turn (I don't know if they can be set in the Object Editor to have a crazy-huge turning rate; maybe that would help?). Coiling him up as Misha said might very well help solve that.

    Anyway, cool stuff!

I love how this is using so many lvls from underwater to above ground. Has this been uploaded at inwarcraft.de 10 years ago?
    great model!

That's a really nice looking sea serpent. There are some fixes to be donem though.
    • Lacks attachments as "Chest Ref", "Hand Left Ref" and "Hand Right Ref". Might sound crazy, but in a melee game those are necessary even to a snake, to display buffs correctly. (Sludge Minion has 'hand ref' attachments too.. you could add them at what you consider the snake weapons are) - Also rename "Head First Ref" to "Head Ref".
    • Selectability is an issue here. Maybe be more generous with the size of the Collision Shapes, so it can be clicked easier.
    • Teamcolor would really raise a lot this model's usefulness. Maybe if you added some extra geometry of teamcolor to avoid having to edit much. Could be an alternative upload.
It is really well-made and looking good, it's a shame in WC3 long serpents won't perform so well. Awaiting updates. (At least the chest attachment addition)
