The idea behind this is amazingly creative. I doubt Blizzard would have done such a creative piece if they were to give the Sea Giants a spellcaster. And it's all very well executed. It's really an impeccable model. Approved :) Oh, and if someday...

A fantastic idea, a nice addition to the Sea Giant creep group. They are not all strength anymore because of this one.
It could even be the ruler of them, it is a hero, the clothing is fabulous! The octopus could be his crown, considering of what you're description said it does, the skin is sort of different from the regular ones. The octopus could use more movement.
Nice geyser, could be useful for stuff. The aura was a nice touch too, there is even that advanced bubble steam one. Nice psy wave, nice missile.
Nice icons.
Okay, everything is nice.

Noice.

Really awesome concept for a Tavern Hero, but could also be used as a Boss Fight in Sunken Temple tileset maps. I personally love the hell out of it.

Fantastic; one of my favorite packages (model/SFX/icons) from this Contest, in fact. I won't waste time rewriting, but will instead just Quote myself:

ART
+OCTOPUS! Just about my favorite animal right there. Great usage of the Unbroken texture; you even did the little 'w' pupil from the Forgotten One! Noice!
+Sea Giant base & In-game textures = Totally fits in-game.
+Nice alternate clothes on the Sea Giant; very regal
+Nice octopus animations; liked how it 'helped' attack and then waved it's arms around during Channel
+LOVE these SFX. From the simple & effective PsyWave to the beautiful Scald, all did more than get the job done; they impressed.
+A little touch, but I loved the little spinning lightning bits around his hand during Stand Ready
+BTNScald was just great; the other in-game icons fit very well.

~The only SFX that confused me was the little ghosts for Psy-beam. Ghosts? He's not stealing their soul, just their brain(waves)...?
~^That, and SpiritOfVengeance.mdx for a Sea Giant Druid? I don't get having red lightning balls for the attack.
~I would've enjoyed seeing some more antics from the Octopus. Not just funny Stand - 3/4/5 anims, but even just slowly blinking one at a time, or squirting some ink behind him...

Feels kind of weird having a model based off the Sea Giant without any Swim animations. Sort of feels like it defeats the purpose a bit there.
Looks great, a shame it can't be used that way.
Yes a swim animation and a hero icon.

swim animation
Man, I used to do a bunch of model requests for people here on Hive back in like 2014 or so, and I could almost swear that someone asked me to put swim animations on this model. Back then if they asked, I would have done it. But I don't know where that file would be.

Is this model one that the community has permission from the original author to modify?

So someone already request a swim animation for this model. Well it's a cool addition for the naga faction and the sea giants.

I mean Freddyk isn't dead; he was active as recently as a few weeks ago, so someone could just ask. : )

Also poking around his VMs he seems pretty open to people using/modding his stuff, so that bodes well.

Really nice. You should fix the link in the description. It took me while to find your post with the acual hero contest entry: Hero Contest #8 - Joint: Artist & Coder
Your link has the wrong page number.
This is actually a problem with all links to Threads/Posts before a certain time; the post-per-page count was changed so all the old URLs are broken. :<

Attached is a copy of this model that I modified in 2018 to have Swim animations. I performed this model edit at the time probably for a request by @Skyfira according to my file organization and folder history.

More recently, @Dominus15 requested that I add these swim animations, and although it's maybe been 4 months and I didn't do the work because I kept wanting to find my own past work instead, so I don't know if Dominus15 might have already found a different/better solution in the meantime, I went ahead and sent a group DM on Hive to Freddyk, Skyfira, and Dominus15 asking for permission for me to share this old work and ensuring that it was indeed with @Freddyk that I had created it in the first place, since I didn't have in my notes whether Skyfira ever handled getting permission back in the day.

Freddyk seemed happy for me to share this, but pointed out:
  • I should share it here for anyone who wants the swim animations
  • He did not ever create swim animations himself because in reality, the octopus in real life swims backwards. I am not so familiar with real life octopus, and used generic motions based on existing animations and based on the existing Sea Giant for this, so it is possible that what I created swims forward in a non-realistic way
Thanks again to @Freddyk and everybody
