Riddles...

I'm making riddles to my campaign dungeons, still in planning phase... I want them to have more style, since I'm not an english speaker, I could use some help on it...
Try solving them before revealing the Answers

You are in a dry dungeon.

Here, in this place, you swallow me. Yet, were I more, I could swallow you.

the water.
no need of explanation, I suppose...the place is a dry dungeon.
taken from Baldur's Gate, I don't know if it sounds cool this way

To live, I breathe what you do.
But be warned - I do not share.

Once alive, I'll recklessly grow
yet I came out of thin air.

the fire.
I made this one.
The fire needs Oxygen to "live", and so do we, but if we get near to the fire, we get burnt, meaning that it doesn't wanna share it with us.
How does this sound?

I touch every part of you, while you cannot even grasp me.

the air.
I made this one.
We breath the air and it travels across our bodies, and we can't feel it, so it makes a bit of sense.
How does this sound?

I may lie under your feet,
Or may rest upon your head,
The only difference will be
if you are alive or dead.

the earth.
By Yixx, with some reformulation.
Living, the earth is what we step on. Dead, it is where we are buried at.
How does this sound?

Try to defeat me
But try in vain.
When I win,
I end your pain.

Death.
Took from Baldur's gate.
How does this sound?

Your prisioner I am,
Yet I'll always try to flee,
Once that have I ran,
My vengeance your death shall be.

Life.
We keep it at all costs, but once we let go, we die.
How does this sound?

Water
Fire
Wind
Earth

Chaos
Order
Life
Death

The 4 last ones are harder to decipher, since they are more subjective.
Order and Chaos are really messy, I need to change it. Give me ideas...

New ideas and reformulation of the riddles are welcome.

Ok, i liked:
Water (hard to find i guess for the first riddle, maybe you overdid it :p), Earth (Good, but i don't get the "avoid" thing. When did you avoid earth? Even if you are referring to flight, you don't practically avoid earth, you just leave it), Wind (No comments), Life (For this riddle, i thought "Soul" would be the answer, as body could be the prison, but that's my taste), Death (the person who reads it might search for a positive term, thus death is a negative one), Chaos (the 'warm up' is not the suitable verb to use for such term, try a more neutral verb to describe the "fill" thing)

Order and Fire make no sense to me. I was looking for another answer than that.

"Stone to Stone, ashes to grow, when i get shallowed, i leave things hallow"
This could refer to fire; not my best shot, but let me explain:
Stone to stone - we know that when we strike stones together, fire is produced.
Ashes to grow is the result of fire's power, when it is burning things over.
When i get shallowed = i disappear (=the fire is put out)
I leave things hallow (= things that were there are now burnt, so their existance equals to nothing (-hallow))

To live, I require what you do. But be warned - I do not share.
I mean by that:
To remain lit, I require what you require, but be warned - I don't share it.
I wrote "do" because that verb was already mentioned before, and I needed to make interpretation a bit harder.

I could make it rhyme...but it is hard...

The air I breath
is the same you should.
But be warned,
I'm not in a sharing mood.
lol.

looks so damn stupid...

Stone to stone,
Ashes to grow.
When i get shallowed,
I leave things hallow.

This one is pretty kewl.

@Pharoh: You said no comments about air why? Sounds bad? Or good enough?

We need to give the Order word some work.
To resemble order the poem must be like:

  • Organized, with the same amount of syllabes (?) to each line
  • Order should incorporate a human being, and should be of a lawfully neutral behaviour towards the reader.
  • Objects that reminds people of order is a tower, a wall, an angel...
It's a rather hard one...

---

You said death is ironic as sounding like a good thing. But that's the matter. Death is a deceiving being. It will convince you that the death is good, and make you embrace your death. And this poem sounds really cool in my opinion.

---

I will explain it better. You will be given during the game many artifacts:
- Water Stone
- Order Talisman
- Chaotic Medallion
- Fiery Bracelet
And also some others that may fool you in the riddles. You need to carry with you the right artifact and place it in the place where you hear the riddle voice. If you place it wrongly, you will need to defeat some tough monsters and come back in while. Get it?

I really loved the death one, but really. I dont get why those two didnt understand Fire >.> To me that was the most surprising, yet also the most "Oh YEAH!" feeling I got, as it was so correct, but I could've never guessed it, and that is what makes riddles so good, when its so obvious, yet still, its hard to guess. Most of them are great, though the only two I didnt quite get was Order and Chaos, I mean, surely they do in some manner make sence, but they just sound bad >.>

A giant booklice! Because it needs to live (you need air and breathe to live) on chopped wood or something like that (because paper is made out of trees = wood, uh well i'm not really so sure) and its giant so it will attack you and not share! Illogical!

Try to defeat me but try in vain. When I win, I end your pain.

I touch every part of you, while you cannot even grasp me.

You can hit me, stomp me, and dream getting far away from me, but one day, you will join me.

these were all that I managed to figure out without looking at the answer

In my opinion, Water (if in the dungeon context) is possible to figure out.
Fire too, although fire needs a lot of thinking...
Life isn't that hard either, it is possible.
Chaos and Order are so lame.

You just need to think more before clicking the Reveal button.
Actually in the map, they will figure out the riddles talk about the elements, therefore won't be hard to them.

I'm Under your feet,
Or over your head
The only difference is
Do you live or are you dead?

Earth,
When you are dead, you are burried, earth over your head
When you live, you are on the ground, earth under your feet

Looked quite ok to me xD

You see me with friends
Climb in me while i still grew
But when i'm done
I make warmth for you

Tree,
Trees are almost never alone
Children love to climb them
But they get cut to create your warmth in your fileplace

Trees is quite random...
Try to give the elements an evil personality, to scare the hero.
