Yeah, he won an ema-award - accoring to a blogsite, he gained 95% of ALL votes which were given during the votingtime which is over one billion of votes xD
Sadly, he was too shy to actually get the award (besides the fact that the MTVchef first refused to hand him the award) - I pity him for that D:
Prehaps he's gonna perform an act...

Heh, this actually made it into The Times today. Page 25 if you give a damn.

The last part says this:

Mr Godfrey said that MTV had "begged" Astley to come and sent a delegation to his manager. He added: "[Rick] has become a lovely joke. People have a lot of affection for him. It shows he has the most active fans."

Astley, who has described the phenomenon as "very bizarre", refused to attend the awards but thanked fans.

This same thing happened in Hockey. Last year or the year before, a Vancouver Canucks player (Rory Fitzpatrick) was almost voted into the All-Star game. It started with some guy in New York that wanted a player that wasn't a superstar to get into the big game. He chose Rory for some reason, and it took off. Brad Touesnard from Vancouver made the Rory Vote-O-Matic add on for FF, and they used it to get him thousands of votes (it only took him like two hours to make it, good security eh?). The NHL caught on and looking at the results, it seems to lead to the fact that they deleted 100,000 of his votes. They didn't seem to think, or care that it screwed the voting for all the other players.

Yeah, that was the case with MTV. They constantly updated against the Auto-voter, so that's why there are about 20 versions.

MTV disqualified I don't even know how many votes, Bestactever.com has the figures.

The important thing is that he won.
