hello, I just downloaded Retera's Model Studio for the first time and I am confused. I'm not sure how this works, I tried to install it hoping to make some 3d models. Everytime I try to make something, this stuff appears.

I'm using this Warcraft 3 version 1.30 by Mashiro just in case it's relevant to my problem. Rn it's just empty..

Okay I used CASC viewer and found the MPQs and extracted it on a folder. I can see on RMS now in Data Viewer the 3d assets from the game. However, when I try to open an .mdx file, this shows up. I'm at a loss...

Patch 1.30 and 1.31 use a different CASC format that doesn't declare its version number as being different, so Retera Model Studio does not work on those versions out of the box.

There's some way if you go into the code and recompile Retera Model Studio with the 1.30 / 1.31 setting enabled where then it will work on those versions but not on the modern Reforged game versions.

Also, if you use 1.29 or below then it should work fine and not have this problem, since 1.29 and below use the MPQ technology.

So do you generally recommend using something like 1.27-1.29 if you want to use Retera Model Studio?

Just wondering, b/c on the download page for the tool it mentions some intention to support 1.31 and 1.32, and I'm trying to figure out which version(s) of the game to install for all my purposes.

I use 1.22, 1.26, 1.27, 1.32.10, and 2.01 a lot with Retera Model Studio on my computer and they seem to work fine. I also tried 2.0.3 or 2.0.4 or something recently but I have been using a lot of Linux computers and out of date game versions lately. If I have a situation where 2.0.4 doesn't work on my computer, I would patch the Retera Model Studio and publish it as soon as I know about that problem, however.

1.31 and 1.30 have a CASC compatibility issue. So, Retera Model Studio worked great with those patches while they were the live current latest patch but now that the CASC format changed in a way that isn't backwards compatible, if you want to use those versions it's preferable to have a separate version of Retera Model Studio for that specific CASC version. Or you could TRMS (Twilac's fork of Retera Model Studio), where I think they wrote code that fails and guesses and checks itself but ends up supporting both somehow possibly.
