okay so im trying to make an ability called defensive gunning which increases teh attack range and damage of a unit but causes it to remain stationary. i tried doing this in two ways.

1) bear form: i made an alternate unit with increased range and attack and made the movement speed zero but here's the problem. when the unit attacks someone behind it it doesnt turn (which is a big no no)

2) root: i used root and just enabled attack 2 and the unit now turns when attacking and must remain still but, i cant seem to root ANYWHERE regardless of terrain type.

does anyone know how to fix either of these issues? thanks

*note* i tried changing the unit classification to ancient for root and that still didnt work

hmmm??? ur 1st method should work... it worked on one of my map-in-progress... make sure the alternative unit is still able to move but with movement speed 0 (or you could try 1... its hardly any difference i think) and not its movement type "none"... maybe i'll check my own map n get back 2 u???

Both of your methods kind of suck. What you should do is add a dummy unit that will station your unit using the ensnare ability when he casts the ability to make him stationary. Just change the buff's icon, tooltip and model. So what you do is cast any old spell, lets say Roar, which gives you an attack bonus(but change it's targets to self), then via trigger increase the unit's range and make a dummy unit that will ensnare your unit. Pretty simple.
