Okay, so I don't have a beta-key (yet ;)), but that isn't going to stop me recruiting for a major project.

Years before the events of Starcraft I, the Terran Exodus sent millions of colonists in gigantic automated ships. The crew were kept in cryogenic stasis; the ships on-board systems were to reactivate them once a suitable planet was located. However, after hundreds of years, the Power Crystals on board ran dry. The Terrans awoke to found them in a distant and uninhabited sector of space. Completely devoid of planets, they had to make do with what they had.

Meanwhile, [blah blah blah, the events of Starcraft I were happening on the other side of the galaxy]....

Note: The Sector they found themselves is actually in a parallel universe, the Warp Drive on-board the Cryogenic Cruisers malfunctioned and flung them so far in space and across time that they passed through a dimensional gateway (probably built by the Xel’Naga).

The Terran, who felt abandoned by their former comrades, quickly began developing their own empire in this vast emptiness of space. By constructing space platforms and agricultural-domes, their society soon began to flourish... however, what was not known was that they were not alone...

Other Terran ex-patriots were also flung into this strange void. And they were hungry for conquest. Every faction (6 of them) mistook the others as their original comrades and age-old tensions and long-felt hatreds were soon made known. War broke out.

In this vast expanse of space, there was an alien race known to the Terrans as the Krith. They seem, for the most part, to be passive. What is known about the amounts to very little.

Minerals, are abundant in the form of asteroids which travel slowly across the expanse of the sector. A Drop-Ship class vehicle was soon outfitted with a modified Wraith Burst-Laser allowing these minerals to be safely harvested. Minerals are the most commonplace resource in this sector, and can be used in the construction of virtually anything.

Vespene Gas, is actually produced in a pure and ultimately raw form, by a Krith Overlord (called a Cloud-Birther?). The Vespene gas in this raw form, is highly corrosive and damages mechanical structures and vehicles over time – organic infantry are immediately destroyed as the gas eats through their life-suits. Vespene Gas is used in a similar way to in starcraft, it is ultimately rarer than Minerals.

Credits, the economy of the new Terran society flourished despite the lack of natural resources to be found. Soon agriculture and manufacturing industries fed the instinctly human greed. As a result, money (credits) are used for most things, from research to constructing new sections of Space Platform.

Now on to the fun stuff...

Three Resource Types
- Minerals (found in Asteroids)
- Vespene Gas (created by the Krith, as Vespene Clouds)
- Credits (earned at a periodic interval, your industries/commerce earn you more)

I hope that Galaxy Editor can provide a nice UI way of adding this third resource (ie. Better than using a multi-board / something in WorldEdit.)
The ability to construct new space platforms.

Creating New Terrain
In the sneak-preview at BlizzCon, where an Uber-Lisk uses his ability to ‘alter the terrain, to deal with a lurker threat’, I hope to have some kind of unit which is flying, but has an ability which creates the Space Platform (Buildable, Pathable-Ground) terrain type, at a cost of minerals. If this is not possible, I guess I can settle for all the buildings in this RTS to be Space-Structures, as in, they just float in space.

Diplomacy
The Krith are passive at the game start, but if you are too aggressive to them (ie. You attack their cloud-birthers a lot) they might turn against you. One reason for attacking a cloud-birther – is to divert it from flying over your base, and creating a Vespene Cloud, ultimately causing a lot of damage to your infrastructure.

Conversely, it is possible to become allied with the Krith. By avoiding all harmful conflict with them (See note beneath on Weapon Types), they will remain passive - and enter a Defensive Pact with your faction. That is, until one Terran Faction does piss them off. When this happens you automatically enter War with the Terran Faction that goes to war with the Krith. Then you start receiving unique Krith units.

Weapon Types
There are a variety of weapon types which your ships (and infantry/vehicles) can use.

Ballistics - these are your standard rifles (for infantry) and gauss cannons (for ships and vehicles). They are pretty standard and range from Assault Rifles, to Chain Guns, to Graviton Gauss Cannons.

Incendiaries - these are unique weapons, capable of igniting Vespene Clouds. So you can, in theory and in practice, starve your opponents of Vespene, by igniting Clouds which spawn near their base of operations. Note: burning Vespene Clouds causes your relation with the Krith to be damaged, but the Burning Vespene Cloud does a lot more damage to mechanical structures etc. These weapons are also very effective against organic units. They come in two varieties, the standard Flame Thrower and the High Powered Incendiary Cannon (like a siege tank).

Explosives – These weapons are a dangerous counter to heavily armoured vehicles and structures alike. They are less affective against small targets, and typically come in anything from Artilliary, Mortars, Missiles/Rockets and Mines.

Tactical Plasma Energy – these weapons are of a non-lethal variant. They come in three principle types,
  • EMP – disables electronic systems.
  • Psionic Disruption – causes fear and terror in organic units, causing them to flee/panic
  • Ionic Tractor Beam – which allows you to ‘tow’ or ‘pull’ space-debris or other units. Note: Through using a Tractor Beam on a damaged Krith Cloudbirther, you can construct a Vespene Assimilation Factory, consuming the Cloudbirther – but stabilizing your Vespene production for a period of time. This will piss off the Krith a lot... But... If you have a good relation with them, and a Cloudbirther is damaged by another player, the Krith will offer the Cloudbirther to you, and it will remain idle at your base, not producing Vespene until you assimilate it.

Note: This is largely unfinished and is a draft - any thoughts, comments, criticism is much appreciated!!!
