Windows 98, 2000 Pro and XP Pro for me.

98
- Giving the oldschool memories, and is very accurate when it comes to old games (both DOS games and non-XP compatible windows games).
Too bad that you may get the Bluescreen often when something goes wrong.

2000 Pro
- I find it more accurate than XP, but it can be so damn slow when I shutdown Windows or starting Windows. I's a shame that 98 and 2000 isn't supported by Microsoft anymore (no more fix updates).

XP Pro (currently used)
- Not the best, but at least it's much more accurate than the horrible Vista. And mostly new games support this OS (they might support older systems too, depending on what game it is).

I run Home Edition XP (sadly) and Home Premium Vista.

My favourite is XP Media Center by far, because it is the most recent, stable version of XP, and it has a load of handy multimedia features.

The new theme, Royal, is wonderful as well.

I have Vista uninstalled (I first put it in on my new PC and then promptly reinstalled XP when I found out just how horrible it was) and now i'm waiting for SP1. Until then, i'm not touching it.

Rofl owned.

Err, was that the most pointless post you've ever made? I hope so or else you're a pure spam poster.

I voted XP Pro simply because it's the only one I've used and it is so simple (for me).

And yes, before you say anything I am Mavus. Just have a new name,

Too behonest If we did this on a site what schools use, and the Xp Pro Vote would go straight up... As we all know schools are pooor XD.

I Thought Vista Home would off catched up with Xp PRO Because "Home is more common for home use"

Watch your grammar, it's getting to the near point of unbearable. Plus Vista is put down on so many websites and has been said how bad it is, I doubt it's going to be up there in a group of WCIII gamers considering people believe Vista is terrible when it comes to ALL games, which is simply not true.

grathics? Indeed.

I am a forum moderator, and it's not my job to keep the spam down around the place (well it is ocassionally) but my MAIN job is to keep watching on my own forum, the Screenwriting and Audio forums, aka the most underused forums on the site.

Complain all you want, Mavus.

robot-dude, you put 98 but not 95?

(Uncyclopedia is obviously a joke site, but the bold part is quite true, in my opinion anyways)

Uncyclopedia said:
Windows 98: A New Way To BSoD

Despite the frequency with which these patches were released, Windows users finding themselves hungry for more opportunities to play BSoD, and the some of the later patches released actually had users playing the game less. It occurred, to one of Simonyi's assistants, that a new operating system would have to be made to fill this need.

It so happens that meanwhile, Microsoft's Chief Media Analyst Pølski Fakenameovich was also lobbying for a new Windows release. Fakenameovich, relying heavily on data from the BCBFRS, believed that the public was clamouring for a new Windows operating system, and so delivered a rousing speech to Microsoft Executives' administrative assistants. "What the public needs, he theorized, "is an Operating System which looks like Windows 95... but which performs like Windows 95." But despite his strong words, exaggerated hand gestures, and promise of free drinks (bottom or mid shelf only) to anyone who listened to his full speech, the speech fell on deaf ears. It also fell on the ears of people in the room who could hear, because they were more cautious than Ernie around bottle rockets. Disheartened but resolute, Fakenameovich continued his work, until a chance meeting changed his life forever.

And I find vista and ugly, I use XP Pro

Vista does have a nice feeling about it and it's very visually pleasing but with enough tinkering on XP or downloading of a Vista Conversion pack you can make XP almost exactly like Vista without the destruction of gaming. Although downloading the Vista Conversion pack doesn't give you MSOffice 07 or any of the new features (EG. Zooming in/out in folders to change the size of pictures and the ability to crop pictures with an in-built program thing).

Vista sure is nice but if you're a gamer, for now you really should stick with another OS.

There's no doubt it's a Windows Lover, OSX. But if it keeps the millions of people with money happy... or Microsoft rich then why complain.

Or you can do it the old fashioned way and go to www.ebay.com.au (Australian e-bay). There's always a multitude of people selling Vista on e-bay and some of the central Asian countries go for like 0.99c

I think I have some theories that might help some people deciding what kind of OS to choose. You may either trust me or don't. I don't care, I'm just here to give my own opinions, and you could either agree or not.

But first of all, I'm currently using Windows XP SP2, which has never failed me so far. And I consider the most compatible OS so far.

Now, for those who loved the good old MS-DOS, should get DOSBox (It's a MS-DOS emulator) from their site, to get it, just go to Google and type "DOSBox" and it'll point you to their main site. The emulator is free of charge, so there's nothing illegality about it. But be warned that DOSBox requires a very powerful computer and it's quite complicated to use, so you may have to check up with the tutorials in their site. It can run either old dos games since the 80s, to the recent dos games.

For those who use Linux, I've heard rumors of a Windows emulator that helped most Linux users running Windows programs, but I don't know where to get it, so sorry. I'm not using Linux.

Now, Windows Vista is bad (for now), believe me. Most people just keep complaining that Windows Vista can't run some programs or games, can't detect some hardwares via USB connections or some sort, and It requires excessive resources. Until the old Bill Gates releases new Service Packs to fix these bugs, the Vista is not the best idea to use.

For Mac users, hmm... I don't know if there are some Windows emulators, but there should be!

Resuming, everybody is FREE to choose whatever OS they want, as long as they're happy, it's all well. So please don't start any OS wars...

with the intel chip it is possible to boot windows on a mac but why on earth would you do that?? spend £1500 on a mac which can run windows but is worse spec wise than a pc you could build yourself for the same money.

I was talking about an EMULATOR. Emulator means a program that emulates another! Ex:. You're using Mac, you've got a program called Windows Emulator for Mac, you run it, and supposedly the emulator program should ask you what windows program to emulate, and presto, you're running an emulated Windows program on a Mac!

But seriously, I've never heard of a Windows Emulator for Macs, only just for Linuxes. I hope you're not offended with the idea, I only just wanted to help, that's all. And I'm not THAT rich to afford such ridiculous-sized price!

But, my friend, don't forget that computers nowadays can support MORE than one OS in the same computer! But you gotta have more HardDisk drives to support them, though. Ex:. C:\Mac, D:\Windows, E:\Linux, etc..

1) PLEASE fix your spelling
2) Cut down on the spam.

Linux is NOT a Windows Operating System. This thread pertains ONLY to Windows Operating System's not to Operating Systems in general. From henceforth, ALL discussion will pertain only to Windows OPerating Systems, and anyone who posts otherwise will get slapped with some neg rep.

Anyone who even dreams of hinting about piracy in this thread will recieve an infraction.

Of the choices there, I prefer Windows XP Pro.

However, I am also very partial to Linux, particularly CentOS/RHEL because I run a number of servers.

Brad.dude03, first nice to meet you. Second, there's been a little misunderstanding on what you've said about my hints.

First of all, I've always HATED piracy. The hints that I gave are for people who PAID, AFFORDED and PURCHASED the Operative Systems.

When I've said about not affording a Mac, was because that I already have one OS and I don't want to install any more OS in my PC! I always use Windows XP SP2 and Windows XP SP2 ONLY. I'm fact, my family PAID for it for me!

Please, try to understand, Brad.dude03, I'm the kind of person who always obey and respect ALL rules of Hive. I hate piracy, I'm not any part of it, and SPECIALLY I would NEVER think of that vile subject about piracy. And you are totally right about one thing, piracy is extremely bad reputation that hurt (or ruined) countless companies that worked hard for their programs and should be supported.

If you consider emulating illegal, then I'm sorry, I didn't know. I'll just follow that warning because that warning scared the hell out of me!

Please, don't punish me for things that I never did in my whole life. I'm 24 years old (2007) and I understand about the terrible damages that piracy has made to many companies.

I was referring to everyone in the thread! Not just you! Sorry if I gave you a scare lol. Deskalda needs to fix his spelling, ansd I was more hinting that Robot Dude shut his trap permanently.

Your doing fine  so you have nothing to worry about.

But for the rest of you folks... here's a model example of a Hive member.

He appologizes and explains (albeit, unnecessarily), instead of ranting and caps-lock like most of you people.

[Phew!] Thanks, Brad.dude03! You're a pal!

But there's no need to apologize, sorry for bothering you with those merciful words! Jesus, I'm terribly ashamed...!

In fact, I've recently registered to this sweet site and I've thought that I've already done something wrong! Maybe someday you can chat with me if you want in the Introduction Section. I was talking with some good buddies about my epic campaign.

By the way, what's your opinion between XP and Vista?
