Beedrill is finished! i already compressed it..
its filesize is...

13KB
I squished the model. Its size is 40KB, but once you import it to your map, it changes the real filesize to 13KB, although in the import manager that doesn't show.

the shared texture, emotion.blp would be 44KB big, but now, compressed, thats only 12KB.
yeah, everything seems to be doing just fine with filesizes.

I will do a nice screenshot and upload it to the hive if Yixx doesn't answer me.
 
Yeah, his Pikachu is really nice, with good particle effects, although the size is quite big.
If i get his permission to modify it, modify the texture, to lower the filesize it'll be sure among our models.
The filesize of my Pikachu is quite big because the animations are from the wc3 Raccoon (which itself was used in WoW as well), and those animations are very smooth.
Even when I have converted the animations to linear, it didn't do any drastic changes on the filesize.

But feel free to compress the model for your project.

Also, this tool might come in handy when it comes to compressing MDX files.

yeah, i use this tool with my models, it works just fine, i reduced a model of 40kb to 13kb with it...
If you let me, ill try to make the animation a little bit less detailed, if necessary, and squish the model, to reduce the filesize...
Feel free to do so for the project. =)

Somehow Wazzz was actually right with the caterpie, im small (Caterpie) but i do and feel really tough and cool (Kabutops) xD,,
But i got other moves =\
Back to business,, ok Wazzz, make that trailer, and see what will be the best, an in-game, or a friggin Flash thingy xD

@ HappyCockRoach: Since you seem to be good with all those models and skins, can i send you the current models to reskin (maybe with in-game textures) or compress the texture and to downsize the model?

I got a map(not on the Map itself, on the computer with extracted models/skins) of friggin 1MB that could be easily downsized,, Could you do that? (Like you did with the Beedril, from 40 to 13? >=D )
I put it in a .rar file, you can open that? Tell me when you got problems!

lame, just lame, the animations are imported correctly, but they seem too practical and they should have been more beautiful and slow.
the texture needs a BUNCH of work to be acceptable among our models.

I already saw this model once, the texture is so bad, made in mspaint, probably. But you didn't send me texture, I see you agree with me. The animations aren't that bad, I can use them. I will do a texture to this model.

Filesize will be lowered. Since their textures are mostly plain white, or black, I can use in-game ones to some body-parts.

Pokeball:
good, very good. Im gonna do a pokeball projectile model, to the catch ability and to release the pokemon onto the battlefield. basically, it spins until reaching the desired position and there there are many flashing lights and lightning particles, since most of the pokemon have no birth animation to save space, this will avoid them to appear out of thin air like "POOF, there it is".

HC: Maybe you can tell me what tools you use to make models, as I can learn and help you eith this insanely hard work (Only more 90 pokemanz!).
 
Lol, I think LoS was making that flash thingy. I used to have Flash, but don't know where it went :(

Also, my skill with Flash leaves much to be desired lol. However, I noticed that LoS made his own Avatar and thought, "Well, he'd be pretty good at it :D."

3dsmax5 isnt a magic tool that creates models by itself, it is really hard to do models for warcraft without bugs, since it is a professional tool, even harder to do good-quality low-poly ones. so, dont be that excited about it if you don't know it yet, you are gonna get deeply disappointed.

Ok, i am currently rewriting some of the code, these are mainly the ones for Entering Houses and such,, this is because i am tired of GUI actually, i just hate using globals globals and globals,, so i am gonna use local, and switch over to Jass,, im gonna use as much normal Jass as possible, but for some things i will have to use vJass, or maybe still use GUI for some things,,
 
Yeah, i hate gui, I always convert to custom text and set locals as well.
I dont wanna move away from the hive eva! we can keep our discussion here, but more focused now...
Im gonna optimize Weezing and upload it now, then I will start butterfree and after butterfree I will find a way to import the models Yixx gave me into 3dsmax5

but i am now doing some things again in Jass, to keep the code cleaner and make it easier for me (locals instead of globals)

good ur learning to model, but i believe that u shouldn't give any priority to modelling since u have a role on the team and learning to model properly takes time and effort.
what u learn by the free tools won't be never wasted in the others, all of them have much in common.

Bulbasaur is a mess in terms of textures. I tried looking for one in wc3 library, but not a single texture seems to fit, it ends up looking like a crazy shit! look at this

I tried more than 10 different textures, for each one i had to make a different UVW unwrap!!! it is pain in the aaaassssssss!!! i need to make a custom texture or ill go crazy once and for all!!!

UV wrap is really a pain in the ass... Made some today, and every single mistake, and, make it again!

Actually, modeling with the free tools is really hard, takes years to make good models, I'll stay with ma' precious terrains.
And, you can use an texture like the Bulba in the cartoon, to use in your Bulbassaur.

As for the Bulbasaur, is that already a custom texture? Cause then i would suggest it being a little more green,, though the seed on its back will be green, i think that his body should be a little greener,,

very interesting thread :p and I was just reading the first page (63 is too much) and I saw how you said just changing their color would work. I would have to agree. Example, you could take a rat, turn it yellow, ans have pikachu, purple for rattata, etc. And, I won't have to make moltress, cause all you need to do is use the Pheonix :/

Well, the idea was to do most in-game models, but then HappyCockRoach came, with the idea of making models for ALL pkmn, with low file sizes! A requirement was mostly in-game textures and low size, and he worked that out quite very well!
You can check out the models so far (link on his Signature),,

@ Zeron, dont know really,, at least i want those models to be in (if possible) and i need to trigger some more,, So i guess still some time, sorry guys =(

I succesfully implented the Jass into the Map and now you can enter/exit PC, Lab and Gym with Jass =D,, though you wont notice it is Jass, but whatever
Houses and Mart will follow =D

@HC: Hows the Bulba going?

some planes aren't twosided and there are some holes in it though.

is it "lugia aniMATED.rar" the name of the file?
If it isnt, forget it...


the animations are imported from the gargoyle right?
they look really good.
the model is outstanding and it isnt too high-poly for its needs, the texture is really small, everything seems to be alright, I believe that the biggest problem in this resulting filesize is the gargoyle anims, that are very detailed, i guess.
there are maaany unused nodes. erasing them would downsize the file.

@Yixx: i didnt work much lately. cuz i fucked my arm in the gym. so it is hard to model with one arm. but ill try to, sometimes. also, now it is easter holidays, 3 days i have, im going to my hometown and there i believe i wont model at all... =DDDD =(

the lugia mesh I did not create. I am only animating t. :p All of it is scratch made. I designed all the anims on paper and I had to squeeze the last few in just to have enough room. XD Either way, it isn't done yet. There is a version of it out animated by someone else, but it's pretty bad. :/

Wondering though, would you be doing a sequel? and if so, how are you going to have the poke'mon set up? Oo 250? XD (or however many there were in Gold and Silver version :p)
