@Skycraft
That used to be the case.Treecko and Turtwig cant learn them,and I dont think Snivy/Tsutarja can either.
EDIT:

Eng names for the 3 monkeys (incase you didnt know)

Yanappu-Pansage
Boappu-Pansear
Hiyappu-Panpour

How sad names do they come up with...and I thought Unova was the worst..

UNOVA = FAIL NAME CHANGE

They didnt completely rename the other regions (Kanto and Johto were intact,and Hoenn and Sinnoh were just made easier to pronounce)

Oh yeah they can..i was more focused on the sleeping moves.
And Pyrite,how does that snivy on your avatar change every time?

Do you guys realize that the names they use in the Japanese version sound as equally retarded in Japanese as the English sound in English?

In fact, Gen. 1 - Gen. 4's English names were way better than the Japanese names.

I know. Tsutarja in japanese is basically a combination of snake and ivy. But as soon as NoA do the same thing in english, shitstorm everywhere.

I think people just like the jibberish more.

Speaking of english names...

I think people just like the jibberish more.

With the influx of anime obsessors in places outside of Asia came an obsession with all things Asian - the language is no exception. Some people seem to equate anything Asian as being amazing, regardless of it's actual quality thus lines of Japanese that are just as ridiculous as the English lines seem cooler to people because it's the Asian form of it.

Hmmm Blitzle actually doesn't seem like that bad a name, it's kinda weird though as the Japanese name sounded more like Zebra then the English one does.

Its so badly named...keeping it isshu would be better.sounds babyish IMO.

How can you say it sounds better when you don't even know 2 things about it:

1) How to say it properly
and
2) What it even means

If it was written in kana I'm sure you'd like it even more. Respect your own language. Japanese is the same thing as English except we have a lot of different ways to say the one thing. Don't act like you're some Japanese guru. They changed it to "Unova" because no one would say "Isshu" properly in America, just like how I would bet my life on it that none of you are saying it properly.

It's hard to write a pronunciation for the use of the small tsu in japanese, so I'll try my best and if that doesn't work out I'll have to make an audio.

First, I'm going to show it to you in basic kana:

し ゅ

The small "tsu" () in the word adds the second "S" sound to the "shu" (し ゅ). What it technically does is provide a double consonant for words. When you read it, you read "Isshu" with a "hiccup" at the so that people can recognize the double consonant. In addition, you have to actually pronounce the characters correctly.

Does that make sense? It kind of seems confusing.

Pikachu is based on the english words "peek at you" but when said fast or with a heavy new yorker accent, it would be heard as "peekatchoo" Which, of course, implies that pikachu is a pervert. He is an electrical pokemon so one could surmise that he "peeks at you" using electricity. Computers also use electricity. which must mean that pikachu looks at pictures of you on the internet. Pikachu therefore must be a pervert who bates on the internet.

IT ALL MAKES PERFECT SENSE. And who said that the Da Vinci Code was a waste of time?
