Barry from D/P/P sucks. Massively. Especially in battle.
All he does is run around and all energetic and shit, he doesn't even push you or anything.
Pokemon is getting soft :(

Exactly at which point did Nintendo decide kids can't deal with adversity? The original game was just as much a kids game as they are now, so why exactly are they just getting softer (not as in difficulty, as in atmosphere - the new teams are just plain incompetent and un-menacing, the rivals are happy go lucky d-bags that make you hate them for all the wrong reasons, etc. etc.)? At least Giratina and Darkrai are kinda creepy.

I don't think they're making a Ruby/Sapphire remake for the following reason(s):

The remakes of R/G/B made sense because Gen. 1 occurs at the same time as Gen. 3. The pattern also follows for G/S/C, because Gen. 2 occurs at the same time as Gen. 4. On the other hand, all of the following generations will be in different parts of the world/at different times, so I don't see how they'll make a remake of Gen. 3.

discuss)?

edit: Cyrus (D/P/Pt) wanted to kill all humans in the world for the benefit of Pokemon (mass murder) and N wanted to created a new earth because he believed that people ought to be separated from Pokemon (segregation). Those are a bit more "deep" messages than just a normal gang taking advantage of a casino, but they're still serious issues.

It would have been interesting to see a rival who walked down a more shadowy path. You know, someone with a semblance of character development? (Kind of like in G/S/C.) If your rival joined Team (Insert Random Word Here), could it have created a deeper storyline and perhaps a tougher, more fulfilling game?

Thoughts?

They were more-so hinted (well in D/P, I don't know how Black/White work out) then outright said, the main thing Cyrus stalked about was creating a new world (unless they elaborate on it more in Platinum, in D/P I know he was trying to harness the power of the time/space to create a new world) at then really told. Also note that while Cyrus was kinda threatening in the emotionally dead human robot sense as he really wouldn't care so much about your fate, the gang he ran was completely incompetent and overall pathetic, few of the members really even seemed to have a clue about what they were doing - sure they blew up a lake and the leader had weird secret plans, but the average member was a buffoon in a space suit.

One thing I still wonder is that if they were stealing all these different trainers pokemon, why is it that every single member aside from the higher ranking ones, had either a glameow, a stunky or something else (forgot what it was). What exactly where they doing with all the stolen ones if they only assigned the piss poor ones out to the members.

All teams (Rocket, Magma, Aqua, Galactic, and Plasma) use generic lineups for each "Grunt". It's really annoying.

Yeah I know that, but in D/P if one of the team's active things was widespread pokemon theft, then if they weren't going to the members, where were they going? Unless everyone in Sinnoh just loves glameow for some reason.

But yeah, the standard sets just make the grunts in the games stepping stones, if you can beat one you can beat pretty much all of them in that area - making them more tedious then fun to deal with.

some of these names are pretty good, some are "meh", a lot are ohgodwhat

Well it's not like all the old ones made the most sense either:
Bidoof
Kyogre
Ampharos

(of course the name's do have meaning to them, like amp+pharos but you get the point)

Though it does seem a lot of the new names are embracing a more abstract approach.

Some are now iconic, btw, some of those pokemon are actually pretty beast looking, but they look like action figures.

I preffered it when they actually looked like cute new little animals... they had personality.

What are you talking about, these have plenty of personality

Pignite is one of the few sensible names out there.
And I would like it if they destroyed HM's altogether (except maybe fly).Use a knife for cutting, train in martial arts for rock smash/strength,use a flashlight for flash, swim for surf.Use fly to get over waterfalls.

Fuck it all. Use any steel/fighting pokemon to break through rocks. You don't fucking need any HMs if you have an army of super-powered beasts of nature.

HMs are kept for a sense of nostalgia. If you recall, they were originally included as a means to block you off from the original Pokemon League. You could access it from the very beginning, but each time you gained a badge (and the subsequent HM) you were finally able to by-pass that badge's barrier.

No idea why they exist anymore.

Well they've been working for a while on a "real life reference + affiliation" sort of thing that seemed to work, so of course people will be opposed to change. Also note that since names are subjective in how they sound, they can't win - and there's always going to be the blind "Japanese everything is better" group that's going to complain about how much better the Japanese names sound.

But yeah in essence language only has the meanings you associate, or are taught to associate, with the words, thus in the end names in general only make sense if you yourself make sense of them. But of course, there is normally an overall consensus (semi) on what in n general sounds weird/unnatural/silly in a given name.

Well with how HM's don't break, as long as they kept the TM break mechanic, certain key ones like Fly or Surf were pretty necessary to be kept for the sake of traversal and the development of the game, they're supposed to keep you where you can handle the wild/trainers - albeit I'm not sure why they wouldn't let you unlearn them (strategy I guess, it forces the player to make a decision on how to handle their party as they need certain hms - HM slaves also have their disadvantages too so sometimes it may be better to teach them to one of your normals if it matches in with their move scheme).

And hey, some HM's were pretty fun in my opinion (mainly dive, the other's are a bit meh other then Fly and Surf). I want dive back!

you can only unlearn HMs in a certain place because what if you went to some island somewhere, saved, transferred your pokemon in your party that knew surf into a +1 gen game (i.e. emerald -> pearl, HG -> black, etc), and then went back into the first game? How would you get off the island? (for the sake of example the only thing you can fish are magikarp and they are all holding everstones)

(for the sake of example the only thing you can fish are magikarp and they are all holding everstones)

Find me an island like that and we'll talk, also note that you can take the everstones from them (infinite easy money hoorah!). Most places that require HM moves seem to have pokemon around them that learn them anyway, for reasons like that.

Really I think they did that so that HM's really would be a difficult choice - you're going to be stuck with that move for a while so who in your party would be best to learn it.

" If the player's party contains no Pokémon other than Finneon that can learn Surf or Fly and lacks a Pokémon with Teleport, trading away Finneon to Meister can effectively strand the player until Magikarp evolves and can learn Surf or faints in a battle, instantly taking the player back to a Pokémon Center. If the player has managed to progress to this point without obtaining any fishing rods, and does not have enough Rare Candies to make Magikarp evolve (or cancels evolution), or trades a Level 100 Finneon, they will be stuck on Meister's island permanently.
