I never liked the planet models available here on the hive, so i decided to make my own set. First up is the good ol' Earth.
To add a sense of depth, these planets have a modeled shadow effect tied to the head bone. This means you can control the orientation of the shadow by locking the "head" body part facing towards your star/light source, and the planets back will be shaded! If you also script your planets to orbit around the star, you will get a really cool effect.
The cloud texture, which takes up most of the texture space, is shared with a few other planets.
Hey, hey hey! I can see myself on your planet model. That´s great, because I will be on every single map with this Planet. Oh god I´m ugly , can you delete me from your model? You can see me as a little white dot in Europe.
Whoa!
Awesome
But is there any way to make the rotation slow down?
Once you scale these babies up a notch you begin to realize they spin WAY too fast (at least too fast for my taste)
Yeah i agree, maybe one day i will change that. You can set the animation speed through triggers (works for destructables and units). The planets with clouds all have the fast animation, while the ones without atmosphere have a newer, slower animation.
